Hello! I am in a same sex relationship and I am pretty confused about AOS document translation. I've read what it says on the USCIS website about it but I am not sure if I am allowed to translate them myself or if it has to be someone else. I've read people on here tell you you can but then others say they received an RFE because of it, so what is the actual one?

My second question is, if I get approved for GC will I then be able to obtain a US passport? or will I keep my Mexican passport until I become a citizen later on?

When should I apply for a SSN? before filing for AOS or meanwhile?

I appreciate any information y'all can give us. I am adjusting from a B1/B2 visa.

Thank you!

Yes, if you are fluent in both languages, you can translate it yourself. You just need to be sure to include this certification on the translated document> http://www.visajourney.com/content/translations If done correctly, there should no reason for an RFE about it.

A green card is a permanent resident card. A permanent resident is not a US citizen. Only US citizens can obtain a US passport. You will remain a Mexican citizen using your Mexican passport until such a time comes that you ever file for naturalization and are approved.

You are here on a tourist visa and that does not make you eligible for an SSN. When you apply for AOS, you will also apply for the EAD and AP(if you do not have more than 180 days of overstay), and once you get the EAD/AP you can apply for an SSN so you can legally work.

Get your SSN asap; as many documents as possible!

And what documentation should someone with a tourist visa show to the SSA to prove they are eligible for an SSN? Someone on a tourist visa is NOT allowed to work.
