I was just reading this article earlier that says it will not open before Sunday at the earliest:

http://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/middle-east/2013/07/04/Islamist-rule-in-Egypt-fails-says-Syria-s-Assad--1998.html

The embassy webpage itself says it is closed through the weekend.

I am willing to bet that no visas go out until they reopen, and even then there may be some delays until they catch up - depending on how long they remain closed.

Hopefully there will be a quick resolution, however it is Egypt... I wish the best of Luck to you that things move well for you!!!

This was their last post on their Facebook page last night. Hopefully they will reopen on Sunday. We're all waiting

The U.S. Embassy is closed today, July 4, in observation of U.S. Independence Day, and will be closed this weekend. The embassy was closed this week to the public; however, staff have remained active and engaged throughout the week. A departure of non-emergency personnel was announced on July 3 as part of a new State Department Travel Warning for Egypt. However, the Embassy remains active and looks forward to opening for public services soon. For urgent matters, American Citizens can call 2797-3300.

Does anybody know for sure what will happen with the Embassies in Egypt in the event civil war does breaks out?

I know that recently within the past few years we saw in Syria many Embassy's recalled their diplomats and closed, but it was more seen as a protest to the policies of the Assad regime. I haven't read that they've reopened since their closure either. Visa petitions for Syria were then transferred to the Embassy's in Jordan. Though some could request that the petitions be transferred to Turkey. One person on here attempted to request that their petition be transferred to Lebanon because of travel and proximity, but they were told it would have to go through Jordan.

I'm assuming if the embassy closes like it did in Syria, immigration services will be routed to another consulate. I know when my husband had his interview last year in Amman, Iraq and Syria were going through that consulate. It would only be a guess as to where Egypt cases would be routed to, but I am sure the US will be on top of the situation.

So if Egypt cases get sent to another embassy, how long is the wait from there before we hear anything? We completed packet 3 and submitted it early June. We have yet to hear of an interview or packet 4. I'm starting to get nervous.
