Hello All,

As always, thanks in advance for your time.

My Fiancee and I are unfortunately getting down to the wire for scheduling her interview at the consulate and I wanted to reach out and ask for advice about how we should proceed.

Her deadline for her interview in Tokyo, as printed on the NOA2, is August 5th. My I-134 packet is in the mail and she should receive it in about a week. She should also have her police report in hand in 7-10 days. She has not had her medical exam yet, but has confirmed that she can schedule it with less than a week's notice and receive the results within 24 hours.

We have already payed the interview fee, but we have not yet applied to have it scheduled. We know that we need to do this soon, but are concerened that if she applies now, the interview will be scheduled for a date before she has all of her documents ready. After requesting the interview, how much time does it usually take for the interview to be scheduled? Also, is it possible to request that the interview be scheduled on a specific day?

My inclination is to go ahead and request the interview, even though we will not have all of the documents in order for another 7-10 days. What do you all think?

Thanks again.

Every consulate is different, so only those with experience going through Tokyo would be able to answer about how long it takes to schedule. I did find this from the Tokyo consulate info page here on VJ> http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Japan&cty=Tokyo

If you want to go as fast as possible, then as soon as the petitioner gets the NOA2, then take that to the police to get the police certificate. It takes about two weeks' waiting. Also go to the medical people at this time. All forms you need are found online. By the time the embassy gets the package from NVC and you send back your info to them, you'll have the police certificate in hand. When you get the reply email from the embassy, schedule your appointment online. This is the fastest way possible.

Note that appointments seems to become unavailable less then approx 1 month out -- because they get booked up.

If you are worried about the petition expiring, you can contact the consulate in Tokyo and ask that they extend the expiration date.
