Maybe I'm just being nitpicky about some of these but I want to be absolutely sure.

1. DS-230, Part I. Should she handsign her name in Chinese or Latin characters?

2. DS-156, online version.

#31. We applied for a tourist visa and were refused twice, once in 2011 and once in 2012. We were quite naive. Is this going to be a problem?

3. DS-156. Section "The following documents must be attached." What is "evidence of engagement to your fiancee" besides all the documents we've already sent in our original petition? Must the affidavit of support be attached to this form?

1. My suggestion to my wife was if it's a US Govt. form sign in it roman characters unless it specifically says otherwise.

2. She was denied a tourist visa and this is an immigrant visa so it's not a problem they don't expect her to return home. Be sure to put down the specific reason for denial because they can check.

3. This could be letters of intent to marry, a receipt for the ring if available...Not sure about the affidavit but she should certainly bring it to the interview.

Good luck!

Thank you, Mr. Operator! lol love the nick.

Regarding the reason for denial of the tourist visa, they did not give her one. She even asked them, and they said, "There's no why, you're just denied." Of course she was denied 'cause she's a single female with no investments or property asking to come to the U.S. to visit her boyfriend, of course they didn't expect her to come back. Now, is there some standard response we can put in this case?

#3 - Where on the DS-156 do you see a section that says ""The following documents must be attached." I do not see that anywhere on the DS-156.

What did they ask you, Makiyo? I'm not sure what she could say about what happened. She applied for a tourist visa to come here to meet my mom, see where I grew up, etc. They said she couldn't have one. End of story, really.

My officer asked simple things like how many times I applied and what purposes of the trips were. I think they need no explanations of the rejection from us, but just maybe let you fiancee think back about applications roughly and have something in mind to tell when asked. And don't get nervous over it :)

If she wasn't given a specific reason I would enter "None given" and then explain it at the interview.

On a side note...I feel really lucky that Jane was issued a tourist visa before we got married. She was in the same boat, she had a good job and some savings but no property and she has a sister who lives with her mom so she really was an immigrant risk. At the interview she told the guy everything and he approved her in no time and then they had a 20 minute conversation about where we were going to visit what I did for a living etc.

He denials should have no impact on her K-1 so don't sweat it.

Thank you, Mr. Operator, sir! One more question regarding forms.

I did my taxes at H&R Block and my 1040 has "copy only, do not file" watermarked across it. Is this a problemo? Should I go back and get a copy without the watermark on it?

I just don't want to leave any detail to chance.

Gracias. Er, I mean, xie xie!

Mei wenti,

The instructions say 'evidence should consist of copies...' so I think you should be fine. If you have time to get it changed and get it to her that's fine but I wouldn't worry about it. Make sure you send the evidence in duplicate and she should have a complete copy of EVERYTHING with her when she goes to the interview.
