Me and my husband decided that we don't want to be together anymore. We were married for almost 2 years now. I want to leave, what should my actions be from now on?

I want to leave as soon as possible and we never registered the marriage in my home country so if I leave now would he be able to go through the divorce procedure without me being here?

Thanks in advance for the answers!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

Yes, you can become divorced even though you live apart (and return to Bulgaria).

You'll have a bunch of paperwork you'll need to complete and sign, and if for some reason you do not agree about splitting your assets, you could be required to go before a judge, so I hope that part is amicable. It'll depend on the divorce requirements in the state that you currently reside in.

It may be easier to complete the divorce paperwork before you leave than having to deal with it at a distance, however.

It is extremely difficult, nigh on impossible, for him to do the divorce entirely on his own so you should do what you can to make sure it happens - particularly if you or he wish to ever remarry.

First, I would have him file the documents before you leave and have you sign them. This will make your divorce much easier. You can even usually download the form from the court website.

Second, I assume you have a greencard? If so, once you return to your home country, take the GC to a US embassy (or mail it in, there is a form) to relinquish your LPR status. This will make it easier if you ever want to visit the US again.

You'll have to look into the quarantine and pet importing laws for Bulgaria.

There are plenty of International Pet Shippers.
