Much like the isla culture as well.

By the time I arrived in HK, I almost threw up at the sight of butter, cream, oil, and fat....

They're not into dairy products in the Philippines. I was at a seafood place and asked for melted butter to dip my crab meat into. They came back with an unmelted chunk of butter. I don't think their English comprehension was that good. It was hot enough out, that it worked though.

Milk is in cartons on the shelves, unrefrigerated. I haven't been able to convince myself to try it yet.

The Professor is exercising with the wife tonight and cooking spaghetti.

Spaghetti is just as bad. Though I'm biased because I hate red sauce. I am okay with vodka sauce, but even that is wearing thin for me recently.

I love read sauce, in fact to me the noodles is just filler to the sauce. Of course it has to be a good sauce though.

hmmm. i learned and followed the 'fat dialogue' in the south beach diet book.

I don't cook with oil anymore, if it's food i'm going to eat. When I do my 'Chinese Auntie Krewe Cook-Outs', it's peanut oil or canola, as we're getting super hot.

I tried studying the oil my brother-in-laws use, I don't know what it is - I tried to figure it out by the smell at various temperatures ...

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

This is my favorite with quinoa so far:

I have yet to cook it with white wine, though. So this might fall into second.

That looks tasty and the Mexican skillet sounds yummy.

The teen will not eat anything that swam or lived in the ocean but I’m going to take a seafood/fish cooking lesson anyways.

I like cooking my quinoa with vegetable broth and spices instead of water. It’s adds dimension to the dishes I think. I’ve even tried a bit of orange juice in with the water.

Tried cooking quinoa with water before, it tastes so bland.

I cook the quinoa with chicken or beef broth, add cayenne pepper / curry powder / chili powder to make it spicy.

China uses a lot of palm, soy bean, peanut oil, depends on which social echelons one is in......

The breakfast toast in Malaysia by the village side had like a quarter inch thick slice of sweet butter cream in it. Made me gag after a couple of tries....

Would that I could...

That's not pho.

The cheese in Korea was sh*t.

That's because it was yak cheese...

The ballots have been cast....

You both need to visit the Golf of Mexico, man.

He doesn't like the tropics and the beach bores him. He said the best thing about living on Guam was being able to golf all the time.

Push him!!! It is something that you two can do together and so much fun. Last summer when I moved down here, I was pissed because it seemed that Guy (my hubs) was golfing every weekend. I was tired of being alone and started pushing for him to take me out on the course so he did. This year I have taken a couple of golf lesson and have now turned into a golf crazed lunatic. I laugh because now I am the one leaving him on the weekends to go out and golf.

Okay I will, next year when I have a job and am sharing the financial load. :)

Canola oil is both better for frying and healthier. Olive oil chemistry changes with higher temp.

Canola oil is fine. But there are several different types of olive oil, not just the extra virgin. Some are better for hot. On the grill I use vegetable shortening (crisco) to keep it non-stick. But for most of my frying needs, my olive oil does the trick. For some reason though, onions always taste better in REAL butter. Which reminds me we're almost out of hubs country crock (my grandparents used to buy it!) so I'm gonna get some real butter. I still need to buy some loaf pans too and make some real bread. We're gonna make pizza dough again on the weekend. I have a fantastic pizza dough recipe.
