POE lost visa packet, alien number not computing

Im curious if there's any one else out there in similar situation as us. My spouse and stepchild got their passports stamped with their immigration visa and arrived in the US. Both gave the POE officer their sealed visa packet, both got their passports stamped and entered the US. A week later my spoused received the welcome letter, then the receipt that the visa had been paid, both of spouse and stepchild received their social security cards automatically then not long after my spouse received her greencard. I called USCIS when after a month no word on my stepdaughters card. They said a supervisor would call me. 2 days later they did. I was told that they didnt want to speculate but it would seem as though my stepdaughters visa packet was lost after she entered ghe US and her alien number isnt in their system and everyone is perplexed as what to do now. More time and perhaps the packet will surface has been suggested. Anyone have similar experience?

I would cotact the DHS Ombudsman and see if they can help you.

"Wait and see if it shows up" is not an acceptable answer and you should not put up with ####### like that.

i suggest getting into a secondary inspection / deferred inspection office of the CBP (Customs and Border Patrol)

then

talking with the shift supervisor

then seeing exactly what type of arrival record is there for the child.

Don't call, just go.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

so, no news of visiting a CBP office?

what's up ? it's CBP mistake - they can fix it - but you must go in person .

it doesn't have to be THE POE, either.

They said that the packet was never processed so for all they know the packet was never given to them and unless I have a notice stating that the GC was mailed and since we have to file an I90 the notice is the only way to get the $450 waived. We have to resubmit copies of the I797, I485, (pretty much the entire visa packet) and we have to redo the biometrics. We go back in two weeks so I'll update along the way.

i am confused.

The POE lost the packet, a unit of CBP.

Getting into any other CBP office and talking with a shift supervisor is the thing to do, as the shift supervisor can call the POE and find the visa packet.

I am really confused for your choice of path.

Im doing exactly what USCIS is telling me to do, they are unable to find the packet. I already spoke to a supervisor, they cant process what they dont have.

As Darnell stated, USCIS, CBP, ICE, SSA, DMV etc, all government agencies sure, but that doesn't mean they talk to each other.

Go back, again as Darnell stated, and speak with the agency that TOOK your packet, CBP. They were supposed to send it on to USCIS.

Liken it to getting arrested and then going to court. The police has your arrest record, they forward it to the court. The court doesn't have it unless they do. In this case, the "police" is CBP, and the "court" is USCIS. CBP didn't forward it, they've lost it. Most likely they have some sort of record keeping process that may help you locate it, or at least prove where it went.

Talk to them first before you spend the money.

...both got their passports stamped and entered the US...

Both passports got stamped, and they usually write an A# in it. It should look something like this:

http://www.**.com/greencard/images/sample-temporary-green-card.jpg

So if they stamped the passport and wrote an A# in it, this is basicly your receipt that they gave you the package. You shouldn't wait too long to clear everything with USCIS.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...

You'd think, but out of all 3 of the immigration petitions we did hers was the only one that was assigned an alien number when her i130 was approved and hers is the one that the green card never showed. The alien number is on her i130 notice but when uscis enters the A number it doesnt show in their system. Now her passport is stamped but that doesnt override the documents needed to process the greencard.

I know one thing if she had acted out of line at POE she any every piece of paper

in the system, did'nt the same person process her as mom, (he lost the pk)why do U have to pay

again and how did the kid get PP stamped? Its a money making business at every turn

But since the passport got stamped and the process got done at the airport, you did prove a legal entry. It was their fault to loose the package. I would make an infopass appointment and talk directly to an IO at your local USCIS office. Push this matter as hard as you can, they made the mistake, not you.

CBP can find the packet, but most go to a CBP office and start the inquiry.
