As I understand it, a touch literally just means that someone has touched the file. This link is super informative:

Thanks! That link is quite helpful. I definitely get what you mean by the file being touched - but that isn't something we can see, correct? Just because the file has been touched - it doesnt notify us each time, correct? I was under the impression we were only notified or could see the status if it was something that had been changed - such as a decision, not simply if someone had looked at the file.

No, you don't get a notification. But you can do like most of us on this journey do and neurotically check it every few minutes haha. Login here https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/login.jsp

Happy stalking!

Yeah that link makes me feel much better about the process :)

As ChrissiC said, if your file is touched then you won't get a notification. However, if you log in today and see that your "last updated" date is 08/09/13 then you know that your file was last updated on the 9th of August. If you click on the receipt number, this will tell you what happened the last time it was updated. In my case, this was when it was transferred to Texas and the date hasn't changed since.

If you log in tomorrow and see that the "last updated" date is now 09/09/13, it's been touched. If you click the receipt number again and it still gives you the same message as the last time you checked, i.e. your case was transferred, then it just means that someone has physically touched the file- picked it up and taken it to their desk or whatever.

Hope that makes some kind of sense! Basically, if the date changes but nothing else does it's a touch. You won't get an email or text notification but if you check that site every so often you can see if anyone's looking at your file :)

Eek! My heart was just in my mouth when I had an email from USCIS...sadly it just said this:

On September 13, 2013, your address was changed relating to the I129F, PETITION FOR FIANCE(E) that you filed. Please check our website at www.uscis.gov for further updates on your case. Please wait until the end of normal processing time before calling customer service at 1-800-375-5283 for live assistance.

Bit weird as we changed the address a week ago now. Maybe it means someone physically went into the file and put a change of address form into it...who knows. I'm hoping it's reminded them that my file is waiting wink.png

Hey all! Did everyone get the email this morning about the change to the timelines? We can now update them to include the Texas transfer, so if your petition was filed at the Dallas lockbox, sent to Vermont and then transferred to Texas we are able to change our timelines to reflect this.

Apparently, VJ will wait a few weeks for people to update their timelines and then change the way the NOA2 statistics are shown...so in a few weeks, if as many affected people as possible have updated their timelines to show that their original service center was VSC and they were then transferred to TSC, us VSC-TSC transfer folks should have some fairly accurate NOA2 predicted dates smile.png
