How long does it take to receive your SSN?

We sent the adjustment of status applications, work authorization and those have at least been worked on within a week after we sent them. The SSN on the other hand we have no idea, we applied over two months ago, about a week after we got married. The lady at the counter said it would take at the most 40 days, but it's already over 60 days and I need the SSN so I can put my wife on my insurance at work. Anyone know how long it takes to get the SS card? Thanks!

If everything is done by someone who knows what they are doing you should get it in a couple of weeks. If not, then you might get it for Christmas.....

Sorry to be seeming to laugh at this, but I am having a hell of a time trying to get one and I am already EAD approved....

Depends on if you get a properly working SS office or one full of idiots. We applied in July when he was eligible thru K1, James wasn't in SAVE, and they only followed up with USCIS on November 7th because apparently they can't always remember to follow up (this is what the lady said) so we now had to apply for one under EAD and luckily we got a number (still no card in the mail yet).

damn, that's some bs!!! any way I can check on the status of this application (for SSN)? Should I just go back to that office and ask them what the status is or is there a phone number I can call? My wife wants to work but she can't and my biggest worry is getting her on my health insurance, she needs to start seeing a doctor a couple of things.

(I actually thought getting a SSN was going to be the easiest part of "this" process!)
