helloo everyone,

we have paid the GC fee through ELIS before arriving to united states..

Our POE was on the 16th september 2014

I want to know if we have to go to SS office to apply for SS or we will get it with Green card?

I would recommend to go to the SSA office since in 85% of the cases the SSN won't arrive.

I went 2 days after POE and had my social in the mailbox 3 days later. So a total of 5 days after POE.

08/26/2013 -- Marriage

09/04/2013 -- I130 Sent to Lockbox

08/19/2014 -- Interview, Approved and Issued consulate: Frankfurt, Germany

09/25/2014 -- Green card received

08/02/2021 -- Submitted N-400

In my mom's case, i think as she filled up her D260 something stated in their that she want to have ss# once she arrives here, So she got SS# but found out that we don't have to apply in the office anymore because we went to the office 1 week after POE..depends on your case maybe you need to check your D260 or check with ss office once you arrive in US.. So to be sure you get ur ss # fast Edited by chillceb

Give it about 7-10 days from POE, and if the social security card hasn't arrived in the mail by then, go down to your nearest office in person and apply for a card. The green card will come separately in a month or two.

I was just telling a friend a moment ago how strange it is to have nothing, literally nothing to be checking the status of anymore. I keep having the urge to check USCIS or USPS even though everything is done, it's like phantom limb syndrome! :dead:

Hope your card arrives soon!!

hahaha! I remember talking to bdrew about how it feels weird to not actively participate in the NVC or interview threads anymore as someone going through that process.

I had already removed the USCIS Case Tracker app on my phone. Looks like I need to reinstall it! And thanks!! ^_^

Hi all,

As of Sep 17, 2014, my ELIS status says 'closed' - card produced. These days, how long should I anticipate for it to get mailed to me? I'm keen to get the GC in hand, I had a harrowing time trying to explain to airline agent and employers that the MRV I-551 stamp is perfectly valid proof of green card status.

You should use your IOE number on the USCIS case status site: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/ProcTimes/SubTypes.do

That'll let you track your progress through green card production and mailing. Estimate a week for production and two days for shipping.

Did the local office say a number has been assigned? Wait until Thurs-Fri and if you don't receive a card by then, go into the office and apply. They tell you to wait 3 weeks but most members here seem to get their cards in the mail in 7-10 days or not at all. There's no way to check status on this apart from going to the office in person and asking for information.

For the green card, you can use the ELIS account you created to pay the $165 immigrant fee to track status. When the status there changes from Accepted to Optimized, you can use the receipt number starting with IOE to track card production on the USCIS Case Status website.

Congrats, they give you a little leaflet saying "Welcome to the USA" with it which would have been nice at POE but a bit late considering that it arrives with the GC sometime after POE :P
