Thank you, one more question..Do we need to file jointly or I should file my own? I do not know how it works here.. i think im going to have my own number though, but i read jointly whatever it is dunno,,,which is better? I m home alone now so was trying to search what to do so when husband comes tomorrow will tell him, Thanks again

For taxes, you can file jointly or separately. You tend to get the best tax breaks filing jointly. You need your SSN no matter what.

Also sometimes it's good to send in the ELIS payment after arriving in the USA. Seems to cause less delays and malfunctions if you wait for the USCIS to remind you at least once.

your ELIS receipt number will begin with IOE

Hi,

I paid the $165 fee for my wife on 03/31/14. Her POE is 04/04/14 in PHL airport. She received the SSN card on the 2nd week (3 weeks ago), but no GC yet. The ELIS system shows the case in ACCEPTED status. What should I do? Should I call USCIS or is there another place where I can check what's going on. I read about entering the IOE receipt number in CRIS. What is CRIS and where can I find it? Is it CHECK YOUR CASE STATUS. I tried to enter the IOE number in there but it says "Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status.".

Thanks in advance.

What you can do is be patient.... Many people have waited around two months to go to "optimized". Your case will only appear in cris once it is optimized.

Wanted to share my experience / process with GC.

17th Mar 2014 - ELIS fee paid

10th Apr 2014 - POE JFK

11th Apr 2014 - Visited SS office

18th Apr 2014 - SSN received

06th May 2014 - ELIS optimized

13th May 2014 - ELIS Card Produced & Case Closed

14th May 2014 - Card Received

Note – We visited SSN office immediately after POE, even though we had marked for automatic issuance of SSN.

It took about a 4 weeks since POE for ELIS process to move to next stage, optimized. I just waited during this period based on useful info available on this thread.

Still waiting for the physical GC to arrive...

POE: April 10, 2014

ELIS Fee Paid: April 7, 2014

ELIS still says "Accepted and awaiting review". . .

Is this normal these days? 5 weeks have passed since POE. I got my SSN in a week, as I went straight to the office after POE.

1-3 months is normal and anything under 6 isn't cause for concern.

Thanks NLR. I figured, the Border Patrol agent told me it can take anywhere from 3-16 weeks so I am not too worried, but I know on average most people get it in 4 weeks. I hope next week is my turn.

You've always been so helpful. Best Wishes.

If you are concerned you can call the USCIS but I would make sure your address on ELIS is updated first.

And thank you for your kind words. :) I do hope it shows up soon for you!
