It normally takes from 1-3 months to get the green card from POE or payment (whichever is second.) In some occasions it takes longer, and if it takes over 6 months I seriously suggest calling a congressman to get it sorted out.

My green card is still optimized since Dec 10, 2013. I POE on Oct 22, 2013 and paid the fees since Oct 8, 2013.

I called USCIS and talked to tier 2 officer about this last Thursday. She checked and sent the note to green card production center. Also provide the confirmation number of this. SHe said the dead line that she gave them - Jan 31, 2013. Atleast I should get the letter by that date about when will I receive my card. Or the card will be mailed by that date. If not, I have to call USCIS again. Hope I will get this week or next week.

Hey , just a little of my experience since POE on Nov 14, 2013 at JFK, My case was a F4 family petition for my husband, so myself and our two sons were beneficiaries. We did not pay the Immigration fee before POE , the amount was considerably high for four people as we had other considerations such as air fares etc. Anyway we did not get our SSN , we had to go to Social Security Office and our information was not in their database after three weeks of being in the United States, we applied at that time and received our cards two weeks later. We eventually paid our Immigration fee on December 20, 2013 and was accepted on December 22, 2013. My husband and oldest son received their Green cards on January 20, 2014 (they have the same name, my son is jnr) and my youngest son and I received ours today.

So that is approximately 4 weeks after paying green card was received, since it was mailed out on January 17, 2014.

Maybe its a case by case basis or maybe its based on the type of petition you fall under just not sure.

Yes, it is perfectly normal. approximately after 1-3 months after your POE it will turn into " optimized" . Looking at previous posts, it is taking roughly 5-8 weeks. But you never know. Once it is optimized on ELIS, you could track it on USCIS case status using the receipt number ( starts with IOE). It will tell you when the green card mailed and the tracking number. But if you try to check it before it is optimized, it simply says " this case cannot be found".

If you have checked your box in your application for SSN, you should automatically receive SSN cards in the mail within 1-2 weeks of POE.

In reality, your endorsed I-551 visa label on your passport acts like a temporary green card for one year.

I suggest for new people to read through the pages of this thread to find out how the ELIS process works generally. :)
