you should check in with CBP office, in person, and ask a shift supervisor across the desk to fix your name in the SAVE database system.

If SAVE is messed up, your SSN application will die a horrible death.

Thank you for the input Darnell, Here is what I did, at my POE time, I explained my situation to the CBP officer. he took 2 hours for the entire process, but in the end told me that he did an amendment to my name and my Green Card should show up on the right name. However he told me that it could take upto an year, in the mean time I can get my SSN. When I went to the SSN office (which is 2 days after POE) my name still wasn't updated. its been almost a month and I did not get my SSN as I am expecting my Green Card to come on the right name.

The wait is killing me as I have a job offer on hand, but do not want to start with a wrong name on SSN.

Any inputs ?

i stand by what I said. sorry the CBP goon at a POE not fix the SAVE record, then. Unsure as to the WHY.

FWIW, SAVE updates occur in batch mode - so a correction done this week will show up next week. Plan accordingly, for yer next trip into the SSA office.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I went to the CBP office exactly 2 days after the POE. and since then I haven't visited the SSA office. Are you sure the name updates are in batch mode, what are the approximate schedulings of the batch job. If its a week or more, then may be my name is updated and since I haven't been there, I don't know. but it the batch updates are done on nightly basis then may be the CBP officer did nothing.

In both cases, he did show me a document which said amendment to the name, when I asked for a copy, he said he can't give that.

apologies, since it smells like you not get into a SSA office, I cannot tell you any path.

Hey Darnell, not sure what that meant but I take that as an offensive comment.

Here is my situation. I did my POE, requested the officer to correct my name, initially he was opposing, but when I asked he did something and said don't worry name is fine. This was 20th Dec

23rd Dec - Monday - I go to SSA office and my name is still old.

THEN - I came back to Canada. Not that I didn't want to go to SSA office. i already have a job in Canada and would not relocate until I get a job in the US. which is why i didn't care to get the SSN on the wrong name. the SS officer told me wait to see if database updates or the name is shown correctly on Green card.

Since then I have been in Canada, if I were in the US, i would be bugging the SSA officers daily, but since I am in canada, hoping for the card to show up on right name.

Hope that helps!

ok - when next you travel into USA, step in to a SSA office, and apply again, asking for a SAVE DB lookup at the SAVE office.

report back, when yer able.

SAVE Database lookup at SAVE office? did you mean SSA office.

I remember when I went to the SSA (again I only went once), she had my wrong name in the system, she pulled it based on my Alien #.

She told me to wait and see if an updated name comes up.

Thank you! However, back to my original question, my ELIS case status is still Recieved and Accepted. How long to wait for actual Green Card to show up

based on a POE date of 20 DEC 2013? about 06 APR 2014. That's a current estimation. If ELIS gets fixed, shave off 60 days.

Darnell, what do you mean if EILIS gets fixed? My wife has about the same date. I have not heard a word, but at the same time wasn't too worried because they said it was going to take about 45 days. She, however still has not received her SS card, and am not quite sure that anyone from either office really knows their published policy because they all tell you something different.

sorry - was writing up a longish reply, and my keyboard barfed. I'm on inferior gear today.

Apologies, ELIS is busted. might be fixed in FEB 2014.

ELIS is Busted and might be fixed in Feb 2014. where do you get that info from, does that mean people cant even pay their fees. I doubt that.

no - one can pay the fees. paying the fee is the thing that works.

I'm going to try again, hopefully the keyboard won't snap in two again. What follows is my opinion, based on anecdotal observation and gisting...

you are deemed eligible for a green card when USCIS says you are, for immigrant spouse stuff. The system that handles payment and tracking, ELIS, has bits that are not automated and require human eyeball/fingers on keyboard intervention:

1. A-File reclamation - this was the 'do not open' packet you hand carried into the USA, gave over to a CBP official. This A-File winds its way through from CBP to USCIS National Records Center, but no one at ELIS has real time internal tracking info - the scanning data for each point of existence isn't loaded in real time.

2. POE data - did you actually cross the border, successfully go through the POE? This data is not automatically updated either, and it seems 20 to 40 days 'off' at the moment. Unsure of the exact schedule, but I am torqued it's not 'next day update'.

3. Proof of Payment. You'd think this would be stored in real time, but it's not. Yet another batch process, where a human is actually checking a payment register against the POE event.

How to know your file is coming up for green card printing event? ELIS says 'optimized' for status - expect the card to be printed 30 days after, and mailed out 2 weeks after that. Why so long? No automation, either, as ELIS office sends out yet another report to the National Records Center , who flips it to the Texas Service Center, who then generates the green card.

Fun stuff, aye? I hate this process, I hate the 'lowest bid' and I absolutely loathe the contractor that was awarded. I've run 4 software development companies this century, and we would have been fired during beta phase for this type of lacksidaisical approach to getting the green card issued.

-=-=-==--

Now, as to getting ELIS fixed by FEB 2014 - that's based on monthly phone calls that I have into USCIS, talking with various Tier 2 ISO humans. They actually know something about a fix coming up, and since SEP 2013 have been talking about it with me, when I ask directly. You think you're upset about this? I have to answer to MY wife about why it takes so long, albeit translated into mandarin.... :( and I've know about this cr@p as well, this breakage in the system. Things went faster when pay.gov solely handled the data stream without ELIS involvement. Also, why is it FEB 2014 for the fix? The immigration oversight committee gave direction about it, as well (sorry, this is a committee in Congress, can't recall if House, Senate, or Dual) to have it fixed by FEB 2014.

I hate ELIS with a passion. If there was a direct office I could complain to, I would have filled up their fax machines.
