Green card production after ELIS

Can someone be of help to me please? I'm having serious issues getting my SS#. I arrived in America on the 8th August 2013 and roughly a six weeks later I received my green card. As I didn't receive my SS# through the post I went to the office here in Rockford, il where I applied, with me I took my green card, passport etc. The lady told me I should hear back within four weeks. Today I received a letter saying

" We cannot issue you a social security card at this time because: The Department of Homeland Security is unable to verify the immigrant document you submitted as evidence of your lawful alien status. You should contact that agency to clarify your current immigration status"

I am here on a CR1 visa and I want to know where I'm going wrong? I'm sure I took the right proof of my immigration status in to the social security office so not sure what document they are talking about.

Can someone please assist me because I haven't the foggiest where I go from here. Thank you kindly

You need to go to a CBP office and correct or confirm what is in your SAVE database on the USCIS website.

ok -

1. go back to the SSA office, ask for a SAVE database lookup on your VISA Name and the A#. If they can't find you one way, ask for the alternative lookup.

2. If there is a mis-spelling, that's ok - they can fix things based on your greencard and passport and visa stamp. (they = SSA staff)

3. If they can't find you in the SAVE database, go to a CBP office (deferred inspection, secondary inspection, or even ANY POE office) and then get your entry record corrected with the proper name and/or A#, wait a week, then go back to the SSA office and try again. SAVE db updates are done in batch mode, never real time.

That's it !!! USCIS isn't involved in this one, so don't waste time with any USCIS office.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

George, my wife and her daughter's POE was August 27th and they just received their green card in the mail last week, about 2 months later. The status didn't change on ELIS until about a week before they received their green cards. Also, even though we checked the mark for her to receive her Social Security number on the green card appliation, we went to the local Social Security office a couple weeks ago and it took about 1 week for her to receive her card in the mail. So I would say you should receive the green card within 2 months (I don't know if the government shutdown slowed down my wife's card), and I'd go ahead and apply for a SSN at your local office. As I recall I think you just need her passport with visa # and you need to know her parent's names for the form. I filled it out in 2 minutes before the office closed for the day.

It just figures that the day after submitting a post about no change in status, the status changes... The application just updated the "Case Received Date" and the "Status Date" and moved to optimized, exactly 1 month after POE.

Great, congrats! Maybe my status will change too if I first post here :) - my POE was on 21 September and my status is still only "accepted". I received the Social security card within two weeks of arrival, but the green card seems to be taking forever. The immigration officer at Logan airport did tell me that it would take 30 to 60 days, so I guess I'll only start worrying if I haven't received the card in a couple of weeks.

My F2A/IR-1 journey:

USCIS:
4 August 2011: I-130 sent (while husband permanent resident)
8 August 2011: Priority date
16 April 2013: NOA2

NVC:

7 May 2013: Case number received, DS-3032 sent

15 May 2013: AOS bill received and paid

16 May 2013: AOS package sent

17 May 2013: DS-3032 accepted

20 May 2013: IV bill received and paid

21 May 2013: IV package sent

11 June 2013: response to IV checklist sent

13 June 2013: Case upgraded to CR1

2 July 2013: Case completed

28 August 2013: Interview - approved!

21 September 2013: POE

18 November 2013: Green card received

My husband's citizenship journey:

8 February 2013: N-400 sent
4 March 2013: Biometrics
24 April 2013: Interview
12 June 2013: Oath ceremony

Thanks! Yep, thats what the officer told me in Philadelphia too. But it looks like it does depend on when the POE sends the visa packet to the USCIS. The USCIS appears to have received my visa packet on Oct 25th as per Elis (POE was Oct 8th). So the POE officers sat on it for about 2 weeks. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this, but it looks like your green card production can vary based on how long the POE takes. Reading this forum, I think thats what a couple of others have said too.

Yours should be any day now.

It seems right. My mother's POE was PHL, August 1, but her documents were delivered to USCIS on August 22. A few weeks ago her case was "optimized". No green card as of yet :(

Yay, according to the USCIS case status check my green card is finally in production! My USCIS ELIS status also finally changed to "optimised".

I looked at the dates in ELIS, and it appears that my documentation was only received on 28 October, over a month after POE. I hope the rest of this process won't take so long. My husband and I are out of town this week, and it would be lovely if the green card was waiting for me in our mailbox when we get back on Saturday!

Okay, my husbands POE was 10/05 in Newark, NJ. ELIS fee paid two days before. Still NO green card over here. He called today for the third time and they told him he will receive it in the beginning of January! Ridiculous. I am calling them again tonight when I am home from work

It's taking about 3 months from POE currently to get the green card. They made a bunch of mistakes with some and are having to redo those as well as make new ones. Keep checking your ELIS status.

In between your entry and now there was a government shut down where they were not issuing SSN. You may want to go back to the SSA office and use Darnell's guide to get an SSN. (It involves the SAVE db.)

His endorsed visa is a temporary green card for up to a year. I can see the SSN issue, most places want you to have it before hiring, so I would get that sorted out first.
