Philippines Passport Validity..?

Our passport is good for 10 years. Unless you are under 18 years old. Then a passport is only good for 5 years.

What about in the Philippines? My fiancee haven't got a passport yet, we are waiting for NOA2.

A Philippine passport is valid for how many years from the date it was issued?

I like to just add a word of caution here. If there are documents that you do not have like passport, CENAMOR, NBI Clearance, any and all, GET THEM NOW. Everything takes time and money in the Phil so start now. Find out how long a document is good for and then get the document (and copies) so it is still good during your process. Some documents are good for 6 months, others are 1 year. But PLEASE don't wait because if something can go wrong it will go wrong (Murphy's law) and that will delay your process.

Good luck.

One word of caution with some documents, mostly the CENOMAR and NBI, you don't want them over 6 months old at interview time as the embassy may has for new ones, whether they are still valid or not.

Thank you everyone for your response i appreciate it.

I googled and got a response from one of the posters above that passport in the Philippines is valid for 5years, and when my fiancee apply for it, it can take 15days or a month to get it.

As for the NBI some of my fiancee's friend says it took less than a month to get it (case to case basis) and i guess it is valid for one year?

and for the CENOMAR also valid for one year.

My fiancee is going to process those documents next week, she can't get a passport without NBI it's one of the requirements and also police clearance.

When the time of the interview let's say after 8months does she need to have a new (latest) CENOMAR, NBI, and POLICE CLEARANCE?

Thank you

CENOMAR - YES (valid only 6 months)

NBI - Technically, no (but you might want to anyway) - valid 1 year, but it seems some people are saying they ask for an updated form.

Police clearances - only if you lived abroad anywhere (longer than 6 months I think) - get the clearances from those countries.

Our interview was 6 months TO THE DAY of the CENOMAR (Dated January 02, Interview was July 02). I was afraid it possibly expired on July 01 like a passport would. My fiancee tried to get an updated CENOMAR the day before the interview, but the person said it would still be valid on July 02. She asked again to be sure, and the person said yes. Sure enough the interview went fine. No requests for any additional documents and also no questions about them.

Also, make sure you get at lest 2 or 3 extra birth certificates to bring to the US, as they'll surely be needed eventually, and I am sure they would be hard to get if you need them once in the US. You can do this at the same time/place as getting new CENOMAR.

I have always heard the embassy wants the CENOMAR and NBI to be under 6 months, I have read of cases on VJ where the embassy has held up approval until a new NBI could be ordered.

Police clearance - local police clearance is not needed, now if you fiancée lived in another country for 6 months (and was 16 or older) or more you will need a police certificate from that country.

My fiance will get her NBI and CENOMAR the day I get my NOA2, along with about 5 extra birth certificates for needed use here in the US. She recently got her passport renewed and got her Taiwan police clearance in May.

She has all these things now, for the sake of the CFO, but like the others say, the embassy may ask for newer copies of some of them.

Oh okay. In that case if they want a CENOMAR and NBI to be under 6 months, for sure she can renew her NBI even if let's say still valid for 4 months right? Because NBI is one of the requirements to apply for a passport and I want her to apply for it next week.

Police clearance I think is also one of the requirements to apply for a passport (I am not sure :) )

I'll just tell her not to get CENOMAR until we are approved.

I don't know the rules at NBI for renewing with a still valid report.

Here is what it states on the DFA website:

LIST OF SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS (At least 3 of the following):
  • Voter’s ID
  • NSO Marriage Contract
  • Land Title
  • Seaman’s Book
  • Elementary or High School Form 137 or Transcript of Records with readable dry seal
  • Government Service Record
  • NBI Clearance
  • Police Clearance
  • Barangay Clearance
  • Old documents issued at least one year prior to date of application that show correct name, date and place of birth, picture and signature of applicant such as the following:
    • NSO Birth Certificate of child / children
    • SSS-E1 Form or Microfilmed Copy of SSS-E1 Form
    • Income Tax Return
    • Voter’s Certification, List of Voters and Voter’s Registration Record (for newly issued VRR, please attach receipt)

Apply for a passport to avoid delays. Although the DFA site says 7 biz days for Express processing and 15 days for regular, I had a rude awakening when I renewed in Cebu, it actually takes 10-15 biz days for Express and 20-25 for regular. Make sure to bring all the requirements for passport as it is a pain to be turned away after lining up for hours just for a missing document. Cebu by the way does not have yet the luxury of an online passport renewal appointment.

For CENOMAR/CEMAR, get one now since this takes roughly two weeks or 15 days. Birth on the otherhand can be obtained the following day that is if you line up at NSO. You can do online application via E-cencus http://www.e-census.com.ph/ , however bear in mind, the cost in E-census is double than just lining up at the NSO office. I opted to line up since I wanted to request 3 CENOMARS, 3 Marriage cert, 3 4 births (2 for me, 1 for wifey, 1 for my kid whose birth was reported in NYC.
