FIancee arrived at airport and had her bag stolen containing the sealed packet. She still has passport with visa inside. She is reporting to police now but flight is soon. Can she travel and have packet replaced/confirmed when state side? This is time sensitive so if you have advice or help or contact of some one who can please let us know

I should also mention, given the EXTREMELY sensitive nature of all of the information contained in that packet, there is an enormous risk of fraud/identity theft. You should immediately put a lock on your credit report. I also suggest you cancel any/all bank cards (in case you put copies for evidence) and get replacements. Let your bank know about the theft as well.

As the USC, I think you should inform CBP at POE ahead of time about her situation.

Bring whatever document you have of her that's relevant to her K1 application.

Good luck.

So you are thinking that she should board the plane?

I'm not sure if they will let her board her flight. rolleyes.gif

What I'm suggesting is for the USC petitioner to inform CBP about his fiancee's situation.

Okay I get your point now.

I think she'll be able to board since she has a visa.

You are correct there Gowon. Airline will let her board because of the visa in her passport. Its all they check, 90% of them don't know that she needs the packet to be admitted into the US. But then again, its not their responsibility to make sure she does.

OP, my opinion, don't risk it. Speak to the airline and explain the situation of the stolen bag and how important the package is to be allowed into the US. Airline might waive all fees for the date change. I work for a major airline and we waive payment when we have a passenger that has lost a passport or has a passport stolen.

Only thing you should make sure is that your fiancee has a police report for the theft, show that to the airline and work from there.

Good luck

OH my world, how in the world will someone steal that. What airport was that and are there no camera's around. The document was so important it should have been placed in the curry on and not placed in the regular bags for cargo. Any ways i hope USCIS does something positive for your fiance. Good luck

I'm so sorry that this happened. Thieves, they're just as bad as murderers if you ask me.

I assume that the flight took off already given that thread was posted at 10pm last night. I sure hope she did not board the flight. She needs that package. I hope she filed the proper police reports and is at the consulate explaining the situation.

Best of luck to you both. Hopefully the airline was gracious enough to waive any fines or fees.

These docs should never be placed in anything that is out of the possession of the person with the visa. If they are put in a suitcase that goes in the cargo area the bag would be on the other side of the POE anyway.

I hope the O P will do as V & T suggests or they may have a huge problem.
