HELP - RFE for mismatch between amounts on i-864

We received an RFE email stating that part 25 of the AOS does not correspond to the amount on the most recent federal tax return and W2 for my cosponsor.

He wrote the amount written on his W2 which is different from the amount on his federal tax return since he filed a joint tax return. We've seen everywhere on VJ that the amount to write in this case is the amount on the W2 so he did good. We just called the NVC and the woman said to write the amount on line 22 of the tax return instead (the joint salary). Is there a resolution to this problem since these amounts can never be the same ?

For info : he provided HIS tax return, individual W2, letter of employment and some recent paystubs to the NVC in order to demonstrate his individual income... I don't understand why we got this RFE.

Thanks for your answers.

I searched a little bit and I found the topic about this problem. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/320917-i-864-25-for-single-sponsor-with-joint-tax-return/

If this is right, we really got a checklist by mistake. We called the NVC again yesterday and we got the same answer from the woman, he should have writtten the amount written on his tax return (himself + his wife). That doesn't make any sense since he's not using all this amount to qualify.

How can we get rid of this checklist that doesn't seem acurate ? By calling and asking to talk to a supervisor ?

List what they are asking for, the total income from the tax return. He is providing his W-2 to show his own individual income. The amount from his past taxes does not have to match the current annual income amount, which is proven with the letter from employer and/or recent pay stub(s).
