My cousin is preggers and can't fit her diamond on her finger. She went to Wal Mart and bought a fake,....and it looks fine! Of course I am no jeweler...but I can't tell :)

Most can't tell. A friend of mine took a diamond grading class. He is pretty good at judging most precious stones.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Fabulous article on CNN today about Botswana. Botswana is a democracy that has never had a civil war, has the highest income per capita and highest standard of living in Africa, and provides free education (primary through doctorate) and free health care (including free lifetime ARV drugs to treat HIV) to everyone. How so? Well, 75% of their GDP comes from a frickin' HUGE diamond mine.

See, I told you upthread that diamonds can also shore up the economies of otherwise poor countries that can and do use the money for good, not war.

(In any case, only 1-2% of diamonds currently being sold are actually conflict diamonds ... down from a high of 5% at the height of the problem.]
