Good hotels for Moscow interview?

I'm looking for ideas as to a convenient and not devastatingly expensive hotel for my fiancée to stay in Moscow. Both her medical (at IOM) and interview are early in the morning so congestion on the metro needs to be considered too. Is there a favorite place to stay?

We are staying at the Best Western Vega Hotel and I think it was about 90 dollars a night. It's a few stops east of the IOM and the Embassy. If I remember right there were a lot of hotels in the same area.

Katerina Park... On the edge Of Moscow, but still easy walk to a Metro stop and go closer to the city... We stayed there twice; for IOM and the interview... They took care of Airport / Hotel Transfers too. For a price of course... We would stay there again. It was about the same price as an average hotel in the U.S.

I stayed in "People Hotel" for my interview. It's just down the street from US Embassy and a few public transport stops from IOM (both - office and clinic), so very convinient location. Single room with bathroom costs about $110 per day, with shared bathroom on the floor - from $65 per day. If you need, they do transfers and other services too (for the extra money, of course).

We have stayed several times in flats booked at apartmentres.com -- prices more like $140 a night but you get a kitchen with full refrigerator, clothes washing machine, etc. For us it seemed a better deal than the hotels. The same company can also arrange airport transfers, or stock the refrigerator. The rental units on Novy Arbat are very convenient to the embassy -- also right next Kish-Mish which was our go-to spot for Uzbek style cuisine when we did not want to venture far in the January cold.

That appears to be on the other side of the city which could be a problem for an early morning appointment which she has for both the medical and the interview. The Mercure where we have stayed before (at the far end of the Arbat) is better located but it's very, very expensive on weekdays (but it is quite nice). Are there any other recommendations?

I stayed at People Hotel&Hostel. Single room 3950 Rubles per night. Clean bed and bathroom, small fridge in the room, friendly staff, baggage storage, close to metro. Iron and small ironing board in the hall. No air conditioning and terrible sound-proofing, heard everything in the neighbor rooms. Almost didn't sleep because of the noises and overall anxiety before interview. Wouldn't stay in this place for longer than 1 night. Great advantage - 3 min to the Embassy. Comes in handy if you have an early 8 am appointment.

I think the People Hotel is off the table. I'm leaning either towards the Novotel or the Mercure unless someone has a suggestion of other good western-class hotels in the area.

Well there's a Holiday Inn in Belorusskaya as well. That's not terribly far from Novinsky, i think.

I'm the beneficiary.

It's one metro stop away and for the price, it's actually really really nice.

I've stayed in Holiday Inns in Moscow and St Petersburg, they're surprisingly a cut above.

I rented appartment from www.tripadvisor.com for about $105/night. Less than five minutes from subway. Supermarket is in the next building (about 500 feet away).

It seems better deal then hottel since you get a kitchen and washer, so no extra expenses for laundry, room service, or overpriced food. Kitchen was fully equipped, even spices. I prepared my own home made meals, instead of eating out all the time, which makes me sick often.

I rented an apartment in Kiev for our interview. It was cheaper than a hotel and you get an actual apartment as opposed to a tiny room. The entrance hallway in the building was a bit shady and it had a crappy tiny Soviet elevator (that you had to go up to the 2nd floor to get to, and then it stopped at a landing that is half way between the floors, so not much fun carting luggage), but the apartment itself was great.

I'm sure you can rent something similar in Moscow that will be cheaper than a hotel.

FYI I ended up getting a hotel room for her at the Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya for just $111 a night but that must have been a spacial rate as it was $184 just two weeks later. The hotel of course was very nice and my fiancee was happy with it. She ended up having to return again to Moscow two weeks later and this time she stayed at the Borodino Hotel nearby which she was also happy with (both hotels were near the Leningradsky train station which was handy for her since she lives in St Petersburg and this meant no hauling baggage through the metro which is a pain).
