Hello everyone,

I have what seems to be a simple question, but I cannot find the answer anywhere. My wife recently received her EAD/AP combo card with her new, married name on it. Her foreign passport still obviously has her maiden name on it.

So, for simplicity purposes:

Her name on her foreign passport is Jane Doe (no middle name given).

Her new, married name on her EAD/AP card is Jane Doe Smith (we used her maiden name as her new middle name).

Question is: when we book her flight for international travel, do we book the ticket under the name Jane Doe to match her foreign passport or do we use Jane Doe Smith to match her EAD/AP card??

Thanks!!!

Frank

International travel is done on the official government issued ID of the traveler's country of citizenship--i.e. the passport. So all travel documents MUST match that government issued ID. All the EAD/AP and eventually the GC does is show that she is a LPR of the US and does not need a valid visa or have to use the VWP in order to gain entry to the US. She just shows her GC to the airline employee and she is allowed to board the airplane. Now the catch is that the airline employee may not believe that the person with the name in the passport is the same as the person with the name on the GC. It is recommended that she carry a copy of her Marriage Certificate to help make the connection. At the POE they will swipe her GC and see her whole file including the maiden name, so that part should be easy.

Good luck,

Dave

If her passport is under her maiden name, I would book using her maiden name so that the travel documents match the ID as they already suggested you. However she can have her spouse's last name added on her italian passport on page 6 (you don't say it but i guess she is an italian citizen). This way you don't need to carry a copy of your marriage certificate all the time. You just need to call the italian consulate that serves the area where you live and schedule an appointment. It takes a few minutes and they don't charge you anything. Good luck!
