Do I need to use an attorney for filing/processing the K-1 visa for my daughter? I have interviewed couple of immigration lawyers and asked them to explain about their service during this process. All of them had mentioned that they have lot of experience with K-1 visa and they will guide us through the whole process. Is $750 - $2000 is justifiable for this process?

I am new to this web site/group. It seems like this web site has all the detail steps needed for the K-1 visa process. What extra help that a lawyer will provide? Has anyone self filed and then used a lawyer later because they found the process was too tedious? I would like to know your experience and the guidance.

Please give me your firm opinion with some explanation and please don’t tell me that it is up to me to use a lawyer or not.

Thanks,

Kabilan.

Do it yourself. All the info you need is in the guides and tips. Unless you have a complicated situation an attorney is going to do no more or less than fill out the forms, and you can do that yourself.

Do you mean for your fiance and her/your daughter? K1 is for a fiance and can include K2 for children with derivative status.

If you feel comfortable with the paperwork, gathering all of the pertinent information, filling out the forms and doing the required research here, you do not need a lawyer.

Kabilan,

Perhaps it would be a good idea if you think that you can get a K1 visa for your daughter. But you should interview a few more lawyers if the one's you've talked with thus far haven't pointed the impossibility out to you.

Thank you very much for all the replies. Let us apply without the lawyer's help. What are the information that I should send first to USCIS. I am sure this information may reside somewahere in this web site. But would appreciate it if you would point out that to me.

Thanks,

Kabilan.

What is it that you are trying to do??

A k-1 is for a fiancee, and I hope that your daughter is not your fiancee.

Are you trying to get her a visa so she can marry her fianc?? If so, you have nothing to do with the process. Maybe you do need a lawyer.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I agree, we could answer this a lot better if we knew what you were wanting to do. As far as the lawyer thing it has been discussed a million times but in a nutshell if the case is pretty straight forward and has no complications and someone is willing to spend some time to research things here and carfully prepares things then it is easy to do it yourself.

Basically there are some good lawyers but most will slow you down, complicate the process and take you out of the loop so you have less of an idea what is going on.
