Hello All!!!

My fiance is finally here with me :) YAY!!!!! We are getting married in a few weeks and I want to know exactly what I need to do next? We are applying for his SS Card and ID and our marriage license now but what else should I do so he can get his green card and travel in and out of the states so we can go visit family soon back at his home?

How long does this take to be able to travel outside of the US. We just want to start planning a trip back to Haiti in Feb or March of 2014.

Thanks for all your help again and again and again! Im so happy we are finally together .... God is so good!

Congratulations! Here's the guide for your next steps: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

If you apply for advance parole fairly soon it would certainly be realistic to travel outside the country by next year. It usually only takes about 3 months to get it once applied for.

That brings up a good point. Do you have to apply for the Social Security card if you have indicated in your K1 application that you would like the government to issue you one?

Hmmm... I haven't made it that far yet (just got our NOA2 last week), so I wasn't aware that it asks you that on the K1 application. As far as I know, from reading other threads, everyone has to apply for their SSN at the local Social Security office, and it's recommended to do it 2 weeks after POE, but before the I-94 expires. I doubt that they just automatically issue you one, but maybe someone with more knowledge can shed some light?

ALL K-1 entrant must apply in person to receive an SSN. That part of the DS-230 is not even applicable to a K-1 applicant and not all consulates require that form or only part 1 of it> http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

Thanks very much Jay-Kay for informing us of that. I requested a SS card on it anyways because I didn't know it did not apply to K1. Our consulate requires the form DS-230 Part 1 but I'm going to just bring the other part to the interview anyways to be safe. :).

Thanks for the info my friend. I think I was referring to DS-230 Part 2 which isn't applicable to us. I thought it was on the application form DS-156 but I was mistaken. :)
