So what is the so-called "moral absolute" here? That getting a sex change operation (or being gay) is inherently, absolutely immoral in and of itself? That seems like a fatal flaw of moral absolutism, to me, aka judgments based on superficial characteristics, disregard for substantive evidence.... based I might add, NOT on any "universal moral compass", but rather on a particular, idiosyncratic religious (and political) tradition.

You seem to be confusing "open mind" with "amorality".

My opinion of this would matter on what part of the school year she/he returned in in the first place. I'm not totally clear on this from the story. Also being a substitute teacher favors him in this controversy too. It's not like these kids' regular teacher went home one day then came back a week later and said "hey kids, deal with it", is it?

Seems to me this whole thing could have gone unnoticed to the kids even. From the story it seems like he had a sex change last year and just this year returned. How would the kids even know this was the same person? If the guy was a decent woman trapped in a man's body then she would have had the decency not to have a sex education discussion with small children, and that's all that I would ask I think.

Kind of amazing he waited 71 years though. Not the most attractive 71 year old woman I've ever seen that's for sure.
