I ask one thing of a teacher... to educate my children (or myself). If the teacher wants a sex change, so be it, it ain't none of my business and I can't and won't tell that person what they should do or how they should find happiness or how they should live. I live my life the way I want to and don't expect people to tell me how to live. If I should tell someone how to live, that would make me a bigot.

Just my 1.69 cents.

I don't find a problem with this.

Kids are curious by nature and I'm sure some will ask but really, as long as the person is teaching what is in the curriculum it really doesn't matter what gender they are. I'm sure people wouldn't get thier panties in a knot if it was a Very Flat-chested lady teacher whom can back with an enormous ####### Job, looking like Pamela Anderson. So why would this matter?

or along those lines, how about the unwed mother teaching class? Usually only catholic schools throw fits at that one

I so can't imagine a reaction coming from the kids I know being a bad one or corrupting them in any way over something like this.

I never ONCe used the word hate.

NEVER.

I just have a problem with it. Doesn't mean I HATE anyone.

If you can honestly say you have ZERO prejudices or biases you're probably not being very honest with yourself....

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

I always appreciate honest answers. Others don't.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

You all would be surprised at what some of these kids know....and live with....on a daily basis. I don't think this would phase many of them. If McBeth can teach, I say let it go....just MHO :)

Totally - but this is one case where I would NOT want my child in the class.

ayy que triste estoy

ayy los prejuicios..

still.. everybody's avoiding the main point.. if the educational system or the parents prefer 'good' or 'normal' teachers rather than capable ones.. we're ###### up.. u dont want a 'normal' or a 'good looking' teacher. u want a good teacher who can teach, be good with the kids..

and.. if the teached would decide to.. he could sue for discrimination. and im sure she could have a case there..

sniff..

I don't think anyone is avoiding the main point. No one has said NO DONT LET HER TEACH - everyone from what i've seen has said, yeah let her teach, but either do or don't let my child in her class. I think if she wants to teach, GREAT! teach!! Wonderful. Don't stop her from teaching...

I think those that didn't want their children in her class were just expressing a personal preference...that's all.

Example - Pedroh, you are not gay. You CHOOSE to be with women, not men...but that doesn't mean you think that people who are gay shouldn't be with whomever they want...right? Same thing.

In a way though you are saying don't let her teach because by the fact that she is a substitute teacher and not assigned to any particular class, but potentially available to teach in all the classes at this particular school, there is no way to ensure to all parents who have a problem with this that she won't be teaching their children, except by not letting her teach at all.

But here is a question, if she were transferred to another school district, where none of the children knew about the sex change, and there would be no asking questions from students, would you still have a problem with it? I mean it wouldn't be an issue at all... so what difference would it make?

No problem is that's all it was. But those parents are fighting to keep that teacher away from their kids. Which is nothing more and nothing less than encouraging (or demanding even) that the school district engages in discrimination against that teacher. That's wrong.

Example - Pedroh, you are not gay. You CHOOSE to be with women, not men...but that doesn't mean you think that people who are gay shouldn't be with whomever they want...right? Same thing.

It's not even close to the same. It would be like Pedroh petitioning his employer to have that gay applicant be hired to work in a different Radio Shack - the one where Pedroh ain't working...
