To undergo sex change is neither illegal nor unethical. Thus, there's no reason as to why that teacher can't continue to teach. Why is it okay for some for the school contemplating to discriminate against this person?

If I had kids I'd have no problem with them going to that class.

The teacher doesn't teach a specific class, but is a substitute teacher...therefore to potentially keep your child out of her class, you'd have to keep your child out of the school, or fight to keep the teacher from teaching classes at your child's school...just a thought.....

As a counselor I am very open about my "issues" and what I do and don't have problems with....

I definitely have issues with transvestites. I do NOT have issues with gay people or homosexuality...but for personal reasons, I do have the aforementioned issues.

If that's discrimination, then fine. Everyone has prejudices and biases....that's mine.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

But that wasn't the question. I could care less if she's in the school teaching OTHER people's kids - just not mine.

But how would you keep your child out of class being that she is a substitute teacher, not assigned to regular classes?

this is ridiculous.. if the person is a good teacher (and the country needs good teacher).. what is the effin problem?? personal life is a separate issue from his/her academic life... but people again like to think that transexuality or homosexuality can infect or somehow affect kids...

I wouldnt oppose, if the kid has questions about that, it's a responsibility for the parents to come with an explanation, or.. just use the bigoted approach 'he's gay, so he's wrong and God will punish him, lets not go to that school anymore'..

usually these controversies are made by stupid parents.. gender change has nothing to do with the capabilities of a person.. neither won't 'pollute' ur kid.. the kid is already polluted by the parents bigoted education about how gay people are sick

If s/he is a qualified and respected teacher I believe s/he should be allowed to teach...but I think s/he should be transferred/moved to a different district or school where the children would just know s/he as Ms. McBeth. I would not want to have to explain to my elementry school child why it was Mr. McBeth before Christmas and Ms. McBeth after. If s/he moved to a different school the children wouldn't have to be exposed to trying to figure out "what happened" and "where did Mr. McBeth go?"

Have you heard it talk? It sounds like a man and looks like a man with a bad wig. Have some pride. He's 71. Keep your dignity and avoid the embarrassment on your family.

I could care less if a younger person wanted a change. But at 71? There is something wrong with him.

In my experience.. the more you shelter your kids from those kinds of things they more they will react negatively to it when they are adults. *shrugs* I don't worry about my boys. They have a question and I'll answer it honestly.

If they ask of course I'd answer them honestly, I wasn't say I wouldn't do that. I would just prefer that the teacher in question not be the one explaining to classes about his/her change, that is a personal thing, but obviously it will come up as an issue and I would like to know who is going to be explaining it to my child (me or a professional counselor is what I would be more comfortable with ).

Seems to me that you are doing hating yourself by targeting people that disagree with your view of liking everyone. If you really want to stick with the view that everyone can be who they want to be then that includes people who choose to not support certain lifestyles. Like karo said, that is her choice and her bias, just like it seems like yours is people who choose to not agree with "everything is ok, be whatever the heck you want". I'm certainly not trying to incite an argument here, just an observation. It seems to me (in general, not targeting you) people who say you shouldn't discriminate against anyone for anything always seem to be hypocrites in that they discriminate against people who discriminate....I mean, if you want to support everyone having different views that includes those views that you really disagree with.

I don't find a problem with this.

Kids are curious by nature and I'm sure some will ask but really, as long as the person is teaching what is in the curriculum it really doesn't matter what gender they are. I'm sure people wouldn't get thier panties in a knot if it was a Very Flat-chested lady teacher whom can back with an enormous ####### Job, looking like Pamela Anderson. So why would this matter?
