Im not this far yet but I saw that the DS-156K form you need your birth certificate.. would a passport work??

As far as I am aware, for almost all (if not all) countries, the DS-156k has been replaced by the DS-160. The DS-160 is the only form that needs to be filled out for K-1 visas (Fiance) prior to the interview and it is done completely online. A barcode after completion is all that needs to be printed once the application is submitted. This barcode is sent in with packet 3 back to the consulate. The beneficiary will absolutely need their birth certificate for the packet 3 and interview. If you don't have one, I suggest now is the time to get one ASAP to avoid any delays ;-)

On a side note, there has been much confusion with this new change as the DS-160 is technically called the "Online Non-Immigrant Visa Application" but IS ABSOLUTELY USED for the k-1/fiance visa process. The DS-260 is for those who are already married and are applying for their visa. Just an FYI.

If anyone knows differently, please let me know as we are at this stage at the moment ;-) Best of luck to everyone!

As far as I know (for Montreal Consulate, Canada), we need to send 156K, DS156 (2 copies), DS 230 part 1 forms along with confirmation of DS160 submitted online.

And yes, DS 156K does say to submit along with police certificate, birth certificate, financial support etc. But we don't have to send all those to the consulate in Packet3 . Probably that is the reason we are signing the DS156K while at the interview. for now we just send unsigned DS156K. If I understand correctly, they will verify all those documents in the interview & let us sign.

The embassy in Greece told us we only need the DS160. Apparently this is a recent change, starting October 7, 2013.

For Canada:

You need the both the passport and your birth certificate.
http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/visas/visas/fianc-k-1-visas/appointment-checklist.html

The K1 visa interview check list was revised Oct. 2013 so I think this is reliable as to what you need to prepare. Heads up, they still ask you to fill out a DS156 (its on page 6) smile.png

Interview date Dec 9th, finally. After waiting 7 weeks to get to NVC after NOA2, then AP at NVC?? 2 1/2 weeks before sent to consulate. Other members sent packet 3 back literally hours before us, got interview dates 3 weeks before ours. I feel like someone is trying to place a boulder in our path.
But thats ok, with Kenny's patience and my fired up temper, held together with faith, we are blowing it up and moving on.

I filed a k-1 petition July 26,2013, received a RFE 26 sept, California center received my reply 11 October and I've heard nothing back since then.

Is this normal processing time? Seems like everyone's is going through so fast.

Cheers

Hello all my fellow vj'ers!! Well I'm happy to update that as of 10/31 our petition was finally received at the NVC 37 days after NOA2 from CSC. dancin5hr.gif

I'm happier to report that the NVC sent it to the Jamaican Embassy on 11/1 dancin5hr.gifdancin5hr.gif and according to dhl.com I'm even happier to report it has been delivered and signed for by J. Hurge at the embassy.dancin5hr.gifdancin5hr.gifdancin5hr.gif

I am very happy to be this far but it seems to have taken so long I now have to remember what to do next, because I was so frustrated and irritable by this 'no rhyme or reason' process that I had to focus on anything and everything else to keep me sane. My hat goes off to all of us waiting through this unnatural ordeal that seems to turn something so loving and dear heart.gif into something that doesn't smell so sweet headbonk.gif . There is most definitely a light at the end of the tunnel!cool.png (so I'm told).

So.... Now what is this about the DS160? or 156? or 156k? I'm lost again. unsure.png

Just returned packet 3 to the Embassy this morning. DS-160 was kind of a pain to complete but at least it's just the one form compared to the 3 or 4 we would have had to complete previously. Even though I'm not leaving till May 2014, I can't wait to get the interview over and done with. All this anxiety is giving me heartburn, lol.

Flying to Seattle on 6 May 2014!
