Hey,

I'm 18 and seeking to move to America to move to live with my same sex partner who is a US citizen for a year or so, Before moving back to New Zealand to complete my current University degree. I would like to be able to work part time to sustain myself. My partner can almost guarantee me a part-time job through connections however they will not physically sponsor me for a working VISA.

I'm unsure what to do. This whole visa process is very confusing from what research I have done.

- Marriage is out of the question and same sex marriages are not reconsidered for visas.

- Sponsorship for a Job is out of the question as I am piratically a unskilled worker.

- I do not wish to travel on a tourist visa as I would like to work part-time

- A study/Exchange VISA is out of the question as my university will not created any overseas courses back to my degree or offer an exchange program to me

Any advice or help?

Given your list of things you can't/won't do, I don't believe there is a visa that covers what's left. There's no general purpose work visa that does not have employment sponsorship requirements.

Depending on where your partner lives (and whether his state allows same-sex marriage), the fiance and spousal visa options may now be open to you (because of DOMA overturn). See this article for a brief overview: http://www.policymic.com/articles/51481/doma-overturn-how-will-it-affect-gay-immigrants-and-foreigners

They have an exchange visa that is often used to for young foreigners to work at summer camps as counselors, work at the national parks as waitors, and the like. You could look into that sort of temporary summer work. The visa is J-1 but you ned to find an employer/company willing to set it up.
