SSN and EAD don't match

Hi all, I am new to the site so please bare with me.

I am an Irish citizen and recently got married, AOS from visa ESTA waiver. Received notices of receipts, all going well so far.

My question is, my paperwork was filed using my birth certificate name "Anthony G Crawford" but I have a social security number from when I was here a few years ago on a J1 visa that reads just "tony Crawford" as this is what my passport says. My passport has the shortened version of my name. My passport also states that my birth cert name is longer but this is just noted on my passport.

Is there any way when I get my EAD I can go to the social security office and have them change my name on my SSN to match it, in other words keep the same number but correct my name to my birth cert name/EAD name? Thanking you in advance for your advice.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yes, go fill out a new form at the SSA and tell them you would like your SSN to correctly match your birth certificate and EAD. Take your passport with you too just in case they need to see it and the annotation in it as well.

Yes, you should be able to change the license too. Here in FL the name on the license MUST match the name on the birth certificate(or marriage certificate for a female that changed her name) and the SSN.

Ok, I think the most important thing is changing the name on the SSN, as long as you don't see an issue with this I think I should be ok. It really isn't a major change and I have all the paperwork I need to show it. I just wanted to get some1 else's view on it also. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

Remember your GC will come in the name that you filled in the paperwork for AOS. If this name differs from your passport, you will continuously have problems when you travel and may have to explain the different names at many places including ticket counters, USBC points, etc. You would be served well to change either the name in the passport or the paperwork so they match - before the process goes too far.

Blessed assurance- my passport does have my full name noted on it so that will match the green card. I am pretty sure if I do need to change anything I'll change my irish passport, it would just mean me applying for a new one once my greencard came. I do understand that the difference in the name may be confused sometimes. Do you see an issue with me getting a new passport with my full name after my green card is issued to match it or do you think the one I have now with the full name noted on it will suffice? Thanks in advance!

It should not present any issues at all changing your passport to match your GC. Don't even spend time worrying about it. It would just be like renewing the passport at your embassy/consular and making sure this time they have your full name.

I appreciate you going off topic, I may not have even thought about it otherwise. I think I will just have my passport corrected before I travel outside the states to be sure it doesn't present any issues with re-entry. Thanking you for your advice.
