OMG, once when I called they asked me why he didn't show up for the interview.

Actually, several times when I called DOS they would ask me "did he show up for his interview??" and I'd say "yes" . . . but it wasn't showing in their system??? confused me for awhile.:lol:

The same exact thing happened to me, they told me some embassies are really slow at updating the system and they don't update all the screens. He got fingerprinted on the 14th and DOS told me they got the results today and now they need to finish processing the background check. However since Bush is there this week, I don't expect anything to happen in the near future.

Ugh I have a Mohamed...am I doomed? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I don't really know if that is true. My fiance is not a Mohammed and he is Christian and he is dealing with security checks.

I was just joshin' with ya! I'm sure it's not only Mohameds that get the shake down.

Oh I know but there seems to be a discussion here about security checks and the name Mohammed.

I think it's partially conspiracy theory.

I do too, I don't think there is any logic behind it actually.

I could see if they only checked first names but that would be silly and useless. I mean there are a bizillion Mohameds. I know there aren't any Mohameds in the US (or anywhere else besides Egypt..even there there's only one Mohamed Abderrazek *****) with the same middle and family name as my Mohamed. I think those who use their grandfather's or father's name as a last name would have the most trouble and name hits. But of course I may be wrong.

I think the US still doesn't understand how arab names work, as evidenced by the nightly news. They think last names are first names and that bin is a name and sheikh is a name, and on and on. So I can only imagine how f'ed up the name checks are through the embassies/consulates.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Not to hijack this thread, but as I was sitting here reading this my call waiting thingy popped up a call from "Washington, DC". I FREAKED and click on answer call but it didn't go through. aklsjdf ;lakjsdf;ahsdf DOS had told me they would call me... was this the call??? I know some people have received evening and weekend call backs. Of course no one knows for sure but we've been told by DOS we are "so close" to being finished. Am I just having wishful dreams? I tried to call the number back and it ring through to a "good bye" message and disconnect. (Yes, I've become this desperate/compulsive/freaked out and its shameful). Anyone else have experience with call backs? I know a few do...

Do telemarketers call from DC? I need sedatives..............

Ugh, nevermind. I think I'm just freaking over nothing.

Like Noura said, they look at the whole name but with so many "Mohammeds" it just ups the likelihood of getting a name hit. Names do not have to be a complete match. Similar names kick it out too.

I know how you're feeling reading this. I went through the same when we were waiting for Moh's interview, praying it "wouldn't be us" but you just never know.

I hate when that happens! The phone rings, you can't get to it before they hang up, you are expecting a very important call. But its late in the day, and now you have to wait until morning. blah

I hope this is the call you have been waiting for, keep us informed.

BTW, the name Ahmed is pretty common as well...and it just sucks! lol

Yeah, but gosh darn it we love 'em anyway... (I've been searching for the stupid phone number on the internet, determined to figure who the heck called me... hahaha. Nope. I'm not obsessive. Nuh uh. Not a bit. *twitches*)

There's probably a grain of truth to it. Not that the government scrutinizes 'Mohammed' per se, but if it's a very common name, it probably generates more false hits. Sort of like finding the right 'Joseph Smith' in a phone book.
