Which part of California? There seems to be a disquieting attitude that comes with your question. jest.gif

I've lived in a few cities in LA County for over three years and there are a lot of global and regional cuisines here.

Polish, French, Spanish, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Ethiopian, Armenian, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Lebanese, Greek, Brazilian, Jamaican, Indonesian, British, Moroccan, Afghan, Tunisian, German, Peruvian, Cambodian, etc.

You can also prepare your favorite recipes if you haven't found a job yet so you won't starve.

Ah no I don't mean to be controversial! Well not too much! It's more tongue in cheek!

But I've been over a few times (Southern California) and there is a lot of emphasis on Mexican food. And my in laws , who are not Mexican LOVE it. It's their go to food. So I have found if you're not as in love with it as they are it's a bit hard!

And it's not corned beef, it's bacon and cabbage- which I love!!

And I love potatoes!!

Maybe because my diet is so stereo typically Irish that's why I find it so hard!!

I can relate to this.

People at my work love going out for mexican and Chipotle (restaurant) is as mexican as I get.

They get so upset every time I say I don't like mexican.

They're all 'OH MY GOD WHY NOT WHY HOW CAN YOU NOT COME ON TRY IT AGAIN!"

I generally like Mexican food, but not the kind that's served in fastfood and restaurant chains. There are a few good Yucatecan and Oaxacan restaurants in our area but even the best of them can't compare to authentic Mexican cuisines served in Mexico. sad.png

You can always move to Boston or to Philly where you'll likely find more Irish stuff.

Yes now I identify with what you are saying. It's not that I won't eat it. But I find it hard to order something.

We ain't moving anywhere anytime soon!!

No I'm determined to battle through this obstacle!! It's all part of moving and integrating in a new country!!

And of course as KDH says there about work colleagues not understanding, my in laws are the same 'how can you not love Mexican food', tired- lets have Mexican, hungry - lets have Mexican, not sure - lets have Mexican!!

But I'm sure in Ireland we're like that about potatoes!!! It's a stereo type for a reason!!

I'm moving to California next week. How long does it take to acclimatise to Mexican food when you're a blow-in??

Otherwise Ill end up starving ........

I've been in the USA almost 8 years now, and I still don't like most Mexican food. :(

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

I tend to order salads or fajitas. You almost can't go wrong that way when it's at a "mexican" restaurant. I ate real mexican a time or two... The time in mexico made me sick. :(

I'm lucky, my husband just likes good food with a lot of flavour, so we eat a variety of restaurants. He pretty much loves mostly everything I cook as well.
