Upcoming interview

Ok, so we're less than two weeks away from my wife's AOS interview in L.A. I assume that the interviewer is behind a big plate glass window with a little slit at the bottom (ala I-129F interview)? I just wanted to know so we know how to package our documents.

Also, since I own my own home and I lived there long before she came over, we don't have a rental lease or utility bills or any of that stuff with both our names on it. What we do have is lots of docs from work (W-4, health insurance cards, pay stubs) all showing our address and that she is my spouse/dependant. Also a joint bank account we set up just for this purpose in addition to a bunch of photos at various venues and with my family memebers. Will this be enough?

Unless LA is different from anywhere else, you'll be in a regular office for your interview, sitting across from the desk from your interviewer. Its not like getting your visa at the embassy/consulate.

Yes, just bring what you have. If you are asked for something that you don't have simply explain why. You'll be fine.

For our AOS interview, there was not a window with a slot like there was at the consulate. The interviewer came and called our names in the waiting room and escorted us to his office where we were interviewed.

I already owned my home too. We had other bonafides of the marriage and did not provide anything evidence regarding the mortgage. There is no compulsory requirement for any specific evidence. They will look at all the evidence you do have and base their judgement on the overall picture.

Anybody know if L.A. gives out I-551 stamps??

If L.A. is like the Sacramento office, you will take your notice and put it in a slot/tray under a window. Someone on the other side will take it and later your name will be called for an interview in an office with an immigration officer. They are looking for evidence of your marriage being true. I didn't have a joint account with my wife at the time and we hadn't filed a joint tax return yet, either. But we showed the officer evidence of our trip to visit my daughter and meet my new granddaughter. We spoke about our plans together as man and wife and that seemed to satisfy the officer. The whole interview took about 20 minutes and I had way to much documentation. Photos of the two of you together helps too. (New ones in America as husband and wife, etc.).

Hope someone answers definitevly for you, but seemingly these are rare these days. Santa Ana (CA) doesn't do it for sure.

So they scolded you just for asking if they issue I-551 stamps? Sounds a bit harsh to me.

Just a few more days. Just have to make some last minute copies otherwise, we're ready to go.
