Hello,

I am working to prepare as many documents as I can while we wait for our NO2. Just wanting to see what I can work on gathering/ask a few questions:

1. I take it I can start working on the I-864. As we both live in the United Kingdom I won't be able to sponsor my spouse, however, my dad will be doing this. I still have to fill out an I-864 package, correct? Also, I lived in the UK for all of 2012 and have no yet filed a US tax return. Would it be advisable to do this right away?

2. Is it too soon so work on getting the police check done? Also, how do you go about it? I was on travel.state.gov and it said the following: "Applicants will find further guidance and application forms here." however, that link is no longer valid so I'm not sure if we just go into the police station and ask for a background check?

Is there anything else we can do while we wait?

2013-22-05: Sent I-130 to Chicago Lockbox

2013-10-06: NOA1 received - Petition at Overland Park, Kansas

2013-11-12: Email stating our I-130 has been transferred to a local USCIS Office

2013-13-12: Email stating our I-130 was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office

Have now decided to do DCF through the London Embassy:

2013-22-10: Overnighted a second I-130 to London

2013-24-10: NOA1

2013-21-11: Letter requesting that we cancel our I-130 petition filed in the U.S.

2013-09-12: NOA2

you can start working on those packages, but would be advisable to not sign or get dated material until it is closer to approval. things you can do are getting transcripts for the cosponsor.. yes you will have to file an 864 also.. you can file your taxes or write your letter as to why you were not required to pay or file taxes

for police clearance, check the embassy site first under IV requirements or contact the PD directly

medical the same.. check the embassy site and call one of the appointed doctors to find out costs and requirements

have you researched ap/administrative processing? or the likelihood of mandatory ap? that would be something to research as well in order to set your expectations

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what that means, could you elaborate?

and thanks for the advice I didn't think to check the London Embassy Website that should be much more specific and helpful to our case.

I read Armenia in your timeline.. is that where the birth cert is from? not sure how that would work.. most folks from mena countries, especially men will be put on ap.. basically background checks.. ap is tough since there is no definite date of conclusion.. have not seen it for the UK, but don't know how it would work if indeed your better half is Armenian by birth at the UK embassy

They're from the UK, chances of AP is highly small.

OP if you could correct your timeline for the appropriate country that would be awesome.

I changed my timeline, I'm not sure how Armenia got in there! My husband is British born and has lived here his entire life.

Katie that's good to know, was it a long process getting it? what about your medical?

You can't do your medical until you have an interview date, so you cannot do that ahead of time sadly.

The police certificate requires a bit of background info on the form, then you need to get passport pic done, and you have to have a person to authorise your photo and sign that they've known you for over 2 years, a bit like when you order a new passport (I got my boss to do it) so it took me a couple of days to fill in the form, then pin my boss down to fill in his bit, then send it away. It took 2 weeks for the certificate to come back to me.

Thanks Katie! I found the link for British back ground checks (http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx in case anyone with a similar question is following this post!) seems pretty straight forward. I think we will start this as soon as possible just to have one less thing checked off on our to do list!

Question, do you and your partner both live in the UK? You have filed two months before me so it will be interesting to follow your timeline!

I'm really frustrated seeing that my partner will have to go down to London to get his medical and pay £235!!!!!!!!!!! then travel back up just to wait for an interview date and then go back!

this is such a frustrating process.
