I think, generally speaking, that needing a passport of country <X> to enter country <X> if you are [still] a citizen of country <X> is pretty normal, if not universal. I don't know for sure if Canada has this requirement, but all of their online material that I've seen recommends in the strongest possible terms that Canadians use their Canadian passports whenever they would need to use a passport.

I would personally love to know, from some authoritative source, if a Canada-US dual citizen is in violation of Canadian law or regulation if they enter Canada with a US passport and do not disclose or mention their Canadian citizenship to the border officers. I may try hitting up the Denver consulate or Canadian Border Services to find out. It'd be nice to know if I'll need to update my newish Canadian passport a few years from now, or if they'll accept just a US passport (perhaps in conjunction with an expired Canadian passport, which as I understand it still proves Canadian citizenship in some contexts).

The complication where retention of Columbian citizenship is required to maintain ownership of Columbian property and Columbian financial accounts is not as widespread, thankfully, and a culture of [apparently] widespread minor corruption in the Columbian government minor officials certainly isn't going to help things either. Oh well, not much that can be done there.

I'm going to go with no, it isn't:

Your Canadian passport

Always use your Canadian passport if possible, especially when entering the country of your second citizenship. Note that you cannot use a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship instead of a Canadian passport to travel abroad. A Certificate of Canadian Citizenship is not a travel document. A Canadian passport is the only reliable and universally accepted travel and identification document available to Canadians for the purpose of international travel. Canadian citizens returning to Canada who present other documents, such as a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship, birth certificate, provincial driver’s licence or foreign passport, instead of a Canadian passport, may face delays or be denied boarding by transport companies.

Using your Canadian passport may provide the basis under which Canada can provide you with consular assistance if you run into problems. You should also obtain a visa, if that is required for entry by Canadian citizens, and always present yourself as a Canadian when dealing with local authorities.

Wife and I had seven hours to kill at the Toronto airport, we had to exit through the Canadian POE. the Canadian guards were positively excellent and treated us like kings and queens.

Wish I could say the same thing about crossing over the fence into the US side of that airport, we were treated like criminals of the worse kind.

Made us wonder why we are citizens of the USA!

I've been handcuffed and belittled on my side.

The officer told me the state of my car was disgusting and I should clean it out so I don't look like such a slob.

The handcuffs, I get, I mean, I might have had a painting in my trunk of a woman with her boobs chopped off.

Luckily, I was able to convince him it was a piece on breast cancer.

In actuality it was my husband's slutty ex girlfriend =]
