Vaccinations included in medical exam cost - Dublin?

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether the vaccinations yoou may require on the day of your medical exam are included in the cost of the medical exam or will you be required to pay extra for each individual vaccine you require. I'm dealing with the Dublin clinic in Blackrock Dublin and I'm wondering whether I'd be better to have my family doctor do it (which can cost up on 40 euros a jab) or allow Dr Gleeson to do it on the day of the medical. Thank guys!

Dr Gleeson gave me a tetanus jab for free, but that was 5 years ago....

Thanks very much Queen Penguin! If it is the case that he offers any free jabs then it would make more sense going to him for at l;east the majority of them because they work out at a lot of money and the medical is already very expensive. I'll give him a call on Monday to ask. I'll probably need the tetanus, hep A and B, and the MMR. I have a record of the BCG confirming I had it with the school programme but for some reason it's not on my baby record. Fingers crossed I won't need that. I have my doctor reviewing everything at the moment.

Hi! My husband got the tetanus booster included in the medical a month or so ago. Don't worry about BCG as it's not given in the US. It's actually quite unheard of. If you can get your record of the BCG from the county clinic or anywhere I would do it though because BCG can sometimes cause a slight positive result with the TB skin test (Mantoux in Ireland), which is very common there and required in a lot of states for certain types of jobs (teaching, health professionals, etc.).

Thanks very much Diht, I really appreciate the info, particularly the part about the BCG because I wasn't sure if they'd make me get it again and I didn't want to because of the scaring it can leave on the arm. I have my medical records and handed them into the local, now I just need to get them back from her and take them with me to the medical. Well I hope to go into the teach profession in the States one day so I don't know how that will work out. Hopefully I'll be able to get my medical next week because I'd love to get that part out of the way so I'll only have the interview to worry about. :)

Hey, can I ask you where you collect your medical results from Dr. Gleeson? I hear some people saying that you have to go 'across town' to collect them - not sure what that means. I'm not very familiar with Dublin beyond the city centre. It must be a real pain for people down near Cork to have to take 2 trips to Dublin for the medical. Thanks very much! :-)

When I did it, you did the general medical/ physical check up at his clinic/ office, and then went to the Blackrock Clinic for blood test and x-ray (I believe he is now based at Blackrock Clinic and you do everything there). Then you'd pick up the results at his office a few days later. They were wiling to post them to you but would prefer not to as the post can take a couple of weeks at times- I am glad I picked up as I had my interview surprisingly quickly!

I did my medical in May this year. You get everything done on the day of the appointment with Dr.Gleeson and his nurses. Your results are ready 1 week later. It's up to you if you want to pick them up, get them posted or wait til your interview and pick them up that morning.

Unrelated topic but I'm looking at the checklist and it says that you need a certified copy of each person named in the application. Do they require you to have a certified copy of the American fiancée's birth cert also? That seems like a lot of hassle. I hope I'm going to be able to get that in time for the interview because those things can take time. :(

Thanks very much Aball for the information. I'll have to get a few vaccinations from Dr Gleeson. I contact the clinic yesterday and booked and appointment for Tuesday an 11.30am and they told me that the vaccinations are free. It's a little annoying though that they only have morning appointments because it's difficult for some of us to make it in on time.

Yes that's true. Well at nearly 400 for the 20 minute quick medical and chest xray I think you've (I) paid enough to cover the shots!!

You're right about that! I was almost going to have them done with my family doctor because I thought Dr Gleeson would charge me extra for the shots until people here told me they were included. It was a good think because the medical could have ended up costing me 500!

Hi Dochas, I got my visa months ago and passed the interview no problem. No, you don't need any copy of your fiance's birth cert, all you need is a certified copy of your birth cert throughout the whole process including the interview, :-)

Oh, really? I was sure it said you need a birth cert of each person on the application. I guess that is if there is a few beneficiaries.
