Hi VJers. My fiancée has her interview scheduled for July 11 at the embassy in Manila. She has 2 kids, one 4 years old, and one 9 months old. Is she required to bring them to the interview? If not, is it recommended? If she brings them, will she be allowed to bring her sister to help her care for the kids while they wait for the interview?

hi! are her kids are beneficiaries too??? if that is so, she must bring her to the interview... I am not sure about bringing her sister to take care of the kids... but I have read that the embassy doesn't allow something like that. She must manage it by herself... practical advise is for her to get a sling carrier for the baby so her hands would be free to attend the 4 year old kid and others...

Companions are allowed if the applicants are very young children.

I was allowed entry to USEM when my husband and our 3 kids (aged 4, 5 and 6) went for their interview last Sept 2011.

Are the kids applicants for K2? If yes, they are required to attend the interview.

Husband is allowed even if there no children... he doesn't count :)

Are the children applying for K2 visas? If so, yes they need to be there.

Not sure about this one, seems I have read of one person saying their mother was allowed to help with the children, but I don't know that for FACT. Sorry ... I am no help with this part.

Thanks Hank. Yes the kids are applying for K2 visas and will accompany my fiancée (and me) on the trip to the US. It would be tough for her to manage the kids alone at the embassy during the lengthy interview process.

You are not making the interview? Flying over later for the flight back with the kids... that is a huge help as well.

Great experience at the embassy, I enjoyed the heck out of it.

Thanks for your fast reply. Yes, the kids are beneficiaries too (K2 visas). I will continue looking for the definitive answer regarding the question about whether or not her sister can accompany them to the interview.

I really wish I could be there for the interview too. But it's really tough to get enough time away from work to both attend the interview, and accompany my fiancée and the kids on the trip to the US. Had I known that the visa approval process would go as fast as it has so far, I would have forgone that 2-week vacation we just had together in the Philippines in May/June (even though it was a fantastic trip).

Thanks for the information apple21. Do you happen to know if a companion other than the husband or fiance is allowed to accompany at the embassy to help take care of the kids?

Patacone,

Personally I would contact USEM staff and inquire.

Check out this link for contact phone numbers:

I'd also recommend you obtain a full name or I.D. number if they provide one of whom you spoke with and received your answer from.

Cheers

Sounds like good advice. Thanks. My fiancée or I will call Monday. I will post the answer for future reference.

For sure, even though it really isn't necessary for Manila, it for sure is a memorable experience I am glad I have.
