No. Just racist.

Though I admit that reading Alla's cursive writing in Russian can be difficult.

It's still necessary to teach to read cursive, but maybe not so much write. It isn't as prevalent or important as it once was. The keyboard surpassed it in either long ago. I think the elementary school curriculum should reflect this.

Only very tangentially related to politics. Of course we all know Moses wrote in an elegant cursive hand so possibly religious. Nevertheless this should be moved to Off Topic.

Man, I tell ya !

I type fast and accurate, often !

But once a week, I actually sit down and practice my cursive writing skills, lest I lose them.

I even send out a few letters via postal mail, too.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

To be honest... I am soooo shocked to find out that cursive is not known by everyone... I seriously thought that EVERYONE used it? But after hearing the Zimmerman witness not being able to read it, I was talking to my husband and he does not really know how to write in cursive. He can read it, but not write.. After 13 years I never knew that! I just thought that he preferred printing... I am a big note taker and list maker and do everything in cursive...

The two samples below are the exact same phrase written in cursive. Yes, it's German but that's not really important.

The point is that the first sample is how I learned to write it while the second sample is how my grandparents and great-grandparents wrote.

Things change. Who would have thought it?

Not only that, with the invention of these computer things, people pretty much type everything nowadays.

Very true. My handwriting has degraded quite a bit over the last few decades. I don't think that many people aside from myself could read it. But the point of my post was that there is perfectly good and neat German cursive writing that I have a hard time reading. My grandparents read that without issue. My dad is still fairly fluent with it but it really kind of ends there. Most of today's generation couldn't read it if their life depended on it.

if it was a conservative in the exact same circumstance you would have posted a minimum of 5 jpegs making fun of them by now - might even be your new signature. rofl.gif

Actually the fact it's German is VERY important. Instead of writing "cursive" letters the same as "printed" letters, cursive actually doesn't always look the same (here is the link which you got the above from: http://www.suetterlinschrift.de/Englisch/Sutterlin.htm ). You can see from their alphabet that it looks different. . English cursive on the other hand you may find capital G's look different, but not as drastic as the differences in German script.

Cursive is extremely common in Australia. I use is every day, as does my co-worker and our bosses here in the US (though my bosses hand-writing is really hard to read but that's because he doesn't write correctly). Though maybe when I think about it I do a mix of print and cursive depending on which word I'm writing. Printing just takes too long.

Some of the older versions of script aren't used as often. I write as if I were printing but they're all joined together. My handwriting is easy to read. It just shocks me that someone doesn't know how to read and/or write in cursive. just... wow. Definitely will ensure our kids know how to speak, read and write correctly...

**Edit - the german cursive compared to printed kind of reminds me of a "code" like shorthand or something.

Still missing the point. Cursive writing seems to be on the way out the door altogether. It's not how my daughter is taught writing - not in pre-K and not in Kindergarten. Maybe that's something for later grades, I don't know. Will find out. What I do know is that I learned writing cursive first thing in school. So there seems to be a shift. Much like there was a shift from the old German script to the current day cursive writing. That shift happened sometime around the center of the last century when kids all of a sudden learned a different script and were left largely unable to read old writings.

I think you are right, it is on the way out (at least here).. I have not used cursive in 20 years other than to sign my name but I can still read it albeit more slowly.

We didn't learn cursive until we were about 10/11 years old so there's still time yet.

I'm not sure why it's out the door, that's actually really sad. Like people not learning math because we have calculators :S
