Hi everyone,

I am in US as a K1 holder and I am married. I am trying to complete my package for AOS and I am confused. First of all, I had the examination in August this year and they gave me my shots record. My question is can I use this record or do I need an I-693a form? Because my time is getting closer and my visa will expire soon, so I have to send this package asap. And besides I am anxious about my visa issue, should i extend my visa before I apply for the AOS. I dont know what to do.

Here is my ready documents;

1-form I-864

2-form I-765

3-biographic information attached with photos

4-form I/94

5-notice of action

6-passport copy

7-marriage certificate

8-birth certificate

9-police record

10-form I-485

Thanks,

You don't need to extend your visa now you're married, to be honest I don't think a K-1 can be extended after marriage. Just file your AOS in a timely manner, preferably within 180 days of your visa expiry date. Don't stress the timing, the only requirement of K-1 is that you get married within 90 days of entering the country, you did that so relax. File AOS when ready, you're not going to get deported or anything.

I believe you need to get an I-693A filled out, you should go see a civil surgeon about doing this.

Agree with Dr Lha about the visa... just concentrate on getting your AOS done.

You should know that it may pay to shop around for a civil surgeon to fill out your I-693A. If you had your exam in August 06, you should only need the vaccine supplement done by the civil surgeon, but people are always reporting that civil surgeons tell them they need another exam. This is not true according to the instructions on the I-485 AOS form. Occasionally, the USCIS will require a second exam, but I believe the norm is that they do not. So when shopping for a civil surgeon, make sure they will do JUST the I-693A, since that's all you need.

And ask the price. Fees vary tremendously from one civil surgeon to another.

A good place to start shopping is on the website of your local USCIS office (the one you think you will be going to for your interview). Try looking here:

https://egov.immigration.gov/crisgwi/go?act....office_type=LO

The local office's website should have a list of approved civil surgeons in your area. You can shop by phone from that list. Or you can ask here on VJ if anyone in your area can recommend a reasonable, affordable civil surgeon.

Best wishes!

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

i had my medical done this spring and used the vaccination supplement that they gave me at that time for my AOS app. not sure why you would need to send the other when if i remember correctly that is all they require.

i think some people have received RFE's for I693a's which could delay processing a wee bit... but not everyone gets one. you could have one filled out just to be safe, but it might cost ya...

we sent the one my husband got overseas, we haven't received an RFE yet but we're still waiting so we may yet...

good luck tho!
