Is length of relationship a factor?

My Canadian Fiancé and I have known each other since we were 16, we are now 30. We dated for 3 years and broke up at 19 due to being unable to close the geographical gap between us. We both went our separate ways in life but never got over each other. Now here we are, 11 years later. We reconnected in March 2013, ended out current relationships and wish to be together. My question is: Will the length of time we have been back together be a factor on whether or not our petition is granted? Also, I finalized my divorce just a week ago and will be sending my I-129f out today. Will they be critical of that? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think as long as you have met up again in the last two years, you'll be fine.

K-1s are not usually processed at Texas. They all get sent to the Dallas Lockbox, who then forward the petition to either California or Vermont service centers.

When you get your NOA1 after filing, your receipt number will begin with either WAC or EAC.

WAC = California

EAC = Vermont

It all depends where the petitioner lives. As you are in Texas, yours will go to Vermont.

My date of "engagement" was a month before my divorce from first husband was finalized. It came up in the interview, but luckily I had my separation agreement with me to show that we'd actually been separated for 5 years--just hadn't gotten around to the formal divorce til later. So you might get asked about it.

My fiance asked me to marry him whilst he was still married. I asked him to ask me again once he was divorced. He did so and we submitted the petition about 2 months after the divorce was final.

We had a similar situation to you. We had a relationship 20 years ago - separated - reconnected in October 2011 via FB - he asked me to marry him within 6 days of that re-connection - we both had our respective other relationships to resolve. I entered the US yesterday on my K1 visa and we will be married on 12 July.

Very good luck on your journey.

Thanks, I have another question then. I just dropped my I129f in the mail but my fiancé hasn't officially asked me to marry him because he doesn't want to do it over Skype or the phone. I will be traveling there in august and hewill officially ask me then. Does the date of engagement being after the submission have an effect? We decided we wanted to be married about 2 months ago but the official proposal wont be for another 2 months.

congratulations anna!!! If our date of engagement is after our submission of the I-129f will that trip us up? We decided to get married about 2 months ago but he doesn't want to propose over Skype or on the phone. He will be asking me when I visit him in September so he can do it in person. Should our date of engagement be April, when we decided we wanted to marry and before we submitted our petition or September, when he actually proposes?

Date of actual engagement being after submission doesn't matter.

At interview we were asked the question 'How did he propose to you or was it always assumed you would marry?'

I said that we had discussed marriage very early on but had waited until we were physically together again before he proposed properly. I flew over for a 3 month visit last July and we submitted the paperwork in 20 July. He officially proposed to me on 11 August. So there is a time lag between the submission and the official proposal for us. It was no problem at interview. When you submit the petition you have to provide 'letters of intent' showing that you are willing to marry and are free to marry. That is more important than a date of engagement.

P.S. tell him to keep the receipt for the engagement ring. It shouldn't be an issue for Canada but it's always a good piece of evidence.

Nope. My hubby and I date for 2 month when he proposed to me. By the time of my k1 interview we were only 8 month together and 9 month when we finally got married. It was never an issue. He also "asked me" to marry him in a sort of agreement and we submitted the k1 petition on Sept 2011. On december 2011, we both went to visit my parents in Spain and spent xmas with them. During xmas night my mom and him make an engagement party where he proposed to me with ring in hand and ask my dad permission to marry me :).

My hubby was previously married for 3 years, they separated on 2006 but they finally got legally divorced on 2011 few month before our engagement. Even when he had a separation agreement it was never asked during our interview. Actually the CO ignored the whole thing and never asked anything about his previous relationship
