So i guess i finally learned to post in the correct forum lol

Firstly I have to thank you guys for being so helpful, i don't know how i would have done everything if it wasn't for this forum. Really, Thank you!

Now coming back to the topic, i have a friend who had a slightly different case, he was married to a USC and received a one year green card every year, weird i know. He received his 10 year GC after 7 years of marriage. Does it happens often ? or maybe they thought the marriage wasn't real? or other issues like lots of traffic tickets or other misdemeanors could be the reason? He's a US cittizen now and that was before 2008 i think, i'm just curious.

Also, in normal cases you receive a 10 year GC after 2 years right?

Your friend's story is impossible. Something in the transmission of the story must have been mixed up.

Maybe he got EADs each year? Seven years is a long time to have a pending case, but if he had a criminal record and this was years ago, maybe.

He didn't have a criminal record at all. He only got into one physical fight at his work when this employer refused to pay his money, he was a black belt and beat the bad guy up badly. The bad guy sued him for that. So that was the only misdemeanor, he said he was worried at that time that it may cause them to deny his case but fortunately it didn't affect his case.

A misdemeanor IS a criminal record...

You ask if it's possible, I say no, then you say you are sure. So... okay. Thread out!

No, i ask if it's happens often and what could be the reason behind them issuing 1 year ones, i didn't *ask* if it's possible. There's a difference. I know of course it is cause it happened to my friend.

I'm not sure how often stories like your friend's occur, but I do know it is possible because a relative of mine went through a similar process.

Maybe it depends on the type of visa they have and which country they're from. My relative is from China and came here on a J1 visa. She met another person while here and eventually got married after a couple years of dating. She received 1 year green cards for several years before finally getting her citizenship.

Like I said, I don't know why it happens but my guess is it's the type of visa and the country the intending immigrant is from.
