And the op got blown up.

Look, it is a little different and there's nothing wrong with people wanting to group together with others in similar situations for support/advice whatever.

The processes are the same legally from what I understand but IF same sex couples WANT a sub forum for community building, I think that should be considered. If they don't, fine.

I appreciate where the "non-separatist" people's hearts are but it's not really for them to say.

I was just about to comment on this. Glad I read to the bottom first. Since I'm here, I'll go ahead and throw in my two cents... again.

While the immigration process itself is the same, where you can get married is not the same. All countries allow a man and a woman to get married. Most countries do not allow same-sex marriage. The countries that do allow same sex marriage are generally countries where it is difficult for most people to obtain a tourist visa to go and get married there. Thailand for example. You can pretty much forget about filing for a same-sex CR-1 visa from Thailand since they don't allow same-sex marriage there. People will come back and say "well then go get married somewhere where same sex marriage is allowed" Problem is getting a tourist visa to one of these places is almost impossible for a Thai citizen.

So while everyone wants to be all politically correct and say that same-sex marriage immigration is exactly the same as traditional marriage immigration, it's simply not. As I was saying in my previous thread is that there are still challenges and differences, yet people choose to ignore the realities of the challenges in fear of "segregating" people into their own forum. It's really f'ing stupid if you ask me, but I guess it's politically correct and that's all that really matters, isn't it?

WOW. Its 3:00 am in the morning and I just got text from my finance. He finished his interview and was approved. We are so happy with the experience with the US Consulate in Jakarta. They treated my fiance so fantastic. We were the first gay couple to be granted K1 at the Consulate. They expressed their full support of DOMA and the right of all couples to be happy in marriage. They made him feel so comfortable and asked very good questions about our relationship. Of course they ask about how we met and communicate. Questions about me, my job and house. And my finance indicate the interviewer genuinely was happy to see our pictures and mentioned we looked so happy together. He wished us the best of luck and was happy to approve our visa.

By the way our timeline indicate 85 days to interview and approval. We couldn't have done it without the great tools on VJ. We did get some weird advice from some members who didn't understand DOMA but maybe they will get educated. But in terms of process of visa everything was very beneficial. Thanks again everyone.

SS marriage is the same as opposite-sex marriage, for immigration now too, so no new forum has been created. There are a few threads for gathering/meeting, but all questions can be asked in the regular forums.

Hi there! I am from Thailand and my spouse has just filed our I-130 CR1-DCF from USCIS Field Office in Bangkok. We are same sex couple who traveled to NYC, with me on my US tourist visa, to get married and came back to Thailand with my husband. Now waiting for my NOA1 and petition to be approved. Just wanted to tell those like us who are in Thailand that please do not give up hope. Chances are there for you. It is not impossible for you to get married with someone you love. Getting a US tourist visa is possible given that you are able to show to the consulate that you have ties to your home country i.e. Thailand. :) Good luck and God Bless!
