lawyers are worthless. No your petition will not get approved any faster than anyone elses. If you are a literate human being, and make use of the guides, example forms, and forums of visa journey, then you should be fine. Unless of course your case has very unique circumstances.

i know of someone who hired a lawyer and got his petitioed approved by the USCIS after a week or so. he filed his petition July 24, 2006, got the NOA1 July 28 and got the approval August 4. Dont you think its odd to know that some people can get an edge to others? His fiancee got the medical date August 31 and interview date Sept 5! can you imagine that?

If you want to wait money ona lawyer instead of your fiancee or family... welll it takes all kinds. But the applications are on a first come first served, however there are times whem they add people to the process to get caught up, which may have been what happened. Ours took 8 months from start to Visa..... I did all the forms myself. So do not believe that a lawyer has a magic "IN" with the USCIS and if they do it may be illegal and will come back on you.

A very happy Rob..... My fiancee is coming ot US in December,

well, do you think its a good idea to invest the 1500-2000 dollars for a lawyer, just on the basis that he knows someone? Its still a waste of money. The best advice I can give is this, save that 2 grand, and fly and see your fiancee, and dont forget to keep your ticket stubs, hotel receipts, etc.

Vermont is known to sometimes process cases quite quickly, perhaps they lucky and were using that service centre. I highly doubt that they got it processed quicker simply "because they know someone".

Lawyers DO have their uses. For the average applicant, with no unusual circumstances, there is no real need. However, some people like to use them as a reassurance. Others have circumstances that need specialist help and they simply could not navigate the process without them.

we have used an attourney for the process and i can tell you that it hasnt been any quicker than any of the people on here in fact i would say it takes that little bit longer as our rfe was sent to the attourney first then to us , and the same sending it back this site is so useful i wish i had seen it before doing our application as i would probably been approved sooner!

I'm using an attorney and my advice is that you can easily do it without one with some good research. My lawyer is a nice guy and relatively cheap ($650), but his role has essentially been to make sure I had our packet together correctly. The biggest positive for me came in the fact that he was aware of the IMBRA documentations and I saved time by sending in the proper paperwork (although, I did send off our packet nearly four months ago without any word yet).

In my opinion, the lawyer can offer some peace of mind and maybe save time by knowing the correct way to apply, but I agree with others that all the information you need is at your fingertips. Save the money.

I work with Manila Embassy and know quite a few people in the immigratins department. Your lawyer friend may be using people he knows (bribes) to get the case put ahead of people once it reaches Manila, but he has no controll over the USCIS or NVC process. I'd like to see the proof off this interview date and approval status. Thanks for the name though, I will check into it and see why certain cases can be pushed ahead of everyone else waiting and abiding by the rules of the process. There may be other attributing factors that had your friend's case pushed up early as well, but you did not give much information to decipher that.

My knowing people only gives me insight to the process but it does not give me favortism to get my case moved up. I would not ask the people I know to do that anyway, it is not fair to everyone else in the process nor to put my friends in that situation. They are busy as hell and really need to hire more people but the facility is already maxed out. JMHO Payato
