Translations required after entering U.S. on K-1

Greetings All!

My K-1 Visa Interview at Moscow Embassy June,27 went very well and my visa got approved!

Needless to say how much we are excited about this!!!

While waiting for my passport to arrive I seek your advise on the translations for the documents that I will need after coming to the U.S.

1) Which docs will I need the translations for? (birth certificate, drivers license, anything else?)

2) What are the requirements for the translations? (Notarized? Apostille needed? Will a simple translation as we did for K-1 police and birth certificates suffice?)

3) Will translation made by the Russian agency be fine or is it better to have the translation done in by the agency in the U.S. after arrival?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I would get all important documents translated, ie birth certificate, Vaccination records, college or high School diploma if you plan to attend school here, divorce degrees etc. Documents need to be notarized and contain statement from translator written in english

" I am familiar with both the English language and _________ language. The attached translation is a true and complete translation to the best of my knowledge, ability and belief. Signed____________________________________________. Date______________________________"

All her documents that will be needed for marriage and then AOS. Read the Guides for that upcoming part of the process. Call your county clerk for marriage requirements.

2) What are the requirements for the translations? (Notarized? Apostille needed? Will a simple translation as we did for K-1 police and birth certificates suffice?)

Only certified as already stated above. Anyone can translate they just need to certifiy that they know how to do it.

3) Will translation made by the Russian agency be fine or is it better to have the translation done in by the agency in the U.S. after arrival?

Anybody can do it. Don't need an agency.

I thought about translating vaccination records, but what's the use of DS-3025 then..It has all my vaccinations in English and is signed by authorized doctor. Do you think I will still need initial records translated?

When you say "Only certified as already stated above" I'm a little confused, because the batallion9 stated above to have docs notarized.

Do you mean that just having a phrase written on the document " I am familiar with both the English language and Russian language..." is enough?

About agency: If notarized translations is a requirement, then I need to go through agency. The Notary will not notarize the document translation if I don't have a confirmation that I'm qualified for translating docs. Knowing the language is not enough, got to have a diploma. That's why I mentioned agency in there..

Translations can be done by anyone fluent in both languages> http://www.visajourney.com/content/translations

You only need to translate any of the documents required for AOS that are not in English, such as the foreign spouse's birth certificate.

If you attended college, a final transcript translated will help if any further education is completed. Drivers liscense if you have one. Any official document that might be needed in USA. Medical records probably wont be needed but a list of current medicines, any surgeries, allergies might come in handy.

I would suggest thinking ahead. What immigration needs and what other oganizations need are 2 different things. College will not take a final transcript that was translated by you. If you plan to go to college, they will require a high school diploma or equivalent. They will want an notarized translation.

That is true. I was answering about immigration-related aspects only.

whilst she's getting her shots done, in real time,

ask for an international shot record to be filled out. be prepared to pay extra for it.

Ask for 1 copy just for the AOS - it helps with the civil surgeon silliness later

ask for a 2nd copy if she's going to be working with children or in the health industry.

a little bit of money spent whilst getting the shots is useful - as once the shot record is inside the medical packet, ya cannot retrieve it.

re: other docs.

I say get 3 or 4 birth certificates done. Drivers license, no need.
