Here is a good read for everyone about the new bill that was passed: http://www.care2.com/causes/immigration-bill-blocks-path-to-citizenship-by-securing-the-border.html

There is also a provision in the bill that everyone waiting to immigrate through the legal system when the bill is enacted must have been processed and finalized before any of the 11 million can begin the process of permanency.

“Even the smallest act of caring for another person is like a drop of water -it will make ripples throughout the entire pond...”

I have a problem understanding what is next for this bill...like what is the next step and what date is the next step?

Also how can one follow the news for this bill on TV? Is there any specific program or show or time and date to listen to news specifically on the immigration reform news?

Thanks.

It just passed the Senate. Now we have to wait for it to pass through the House. If it passes through the House, then it gets sent to the President whom will likely sign it into law.

It will take time to make the changes after the President signs it into law. With that said, most of us with pending CR-1 & K1 petitions won't be affected.

When will they vote in the house? And how can one really follow this news?

Also how will the 11 million people know what to do when it passes..if it does pass?

I mean aside the news and stuff...i feel its really hard keeping tab on the details of this thing.

Consider the provision quoted earlier:

"There is also a provision in the bill that everyone waiting to immigrate through the legal system when the bill is enacted must have been processed and finalized before any of the 11 million can begin the process of permanency."

There are people in the Philippines who are on a 20 year waiting list to get their visa. If they must first get their visas before any undocumented aliens can start their path to citizenship then they are going to have to wait a long, long time.

You really think that is the case? I am 100% sure that will never happen..wait 20 years...its like saying apple will actually make an iphone device that weighs 5 million pounds that works exactly like any regular iphone...theory and reality are far apart.

Anywas back to my question..when will they vote in the house? what date exactly

No one can say for sure when it will come up for a final vote in the house. It depends on how long they spend adding and subtracting things from the bill. Senator Chuck Schumer has been quoted as saying he believes the bill will pass the house by the end of the year. It is also possible (though not probable) that the bill does not pass the house vote in any form.

Waiting 15-20 years is a reality today (Not for spouses though) for people taking the legal route to immigration from Mexico and the Philippines. The authors of the bill did not want to make it faster and easier for undocumented immigrants to achieve legal status than for the immigrants that followed the rules.
