Feel free to add your views on guns and self defense to your views on immigration and keep 911 on speed dial so that someone else with a different gun can protect your safety

More importantly, this "solution" would also not get the support of the Chamber of Commerce and there goes your Republican support. As I said, it's unrealistic.

You an I disagree on a lot of things.. But I bet if we sat at a table on this subject we could create something we could both live with because there are a lot of wins for a lot of people. The republicans are the tough sell but if enough of the center could move it could force their hand. Probably never happen but hey a guy can dream.

Not only that, if a law was passed to increase the penalties for people that employ illegal immigrants, would it be enforced? We've already seen the justice depts. selective law enforcement when it comes to this issue and others.

Enforcement will always be an issue no matter what law is passed. If there is no will the laws are not important..

There are millions of people in abject poverty outside our borders. If a man can't feed his family - his children are hungry and suffering every day - and he hears stories about working and making money and sending it back home - What do you put in place to keep him out? A man with suffering kids is not going to care about the obstacles in his path.

How does Guatemala keep this man out? Simple.. going to Guatemala will not solve his problem so he does not bother to go. That is the only way we keep more and more people from coming over the border: Don't be a solution to their problem.

No doubt. I would be open to a lot of approaches - including the tough crack-down on those that exploit illegal labor in this country. I wouldn't mind those employers to be put out of business and their principals be sent up the river. Raise the stakes. Make the risk big enough so that the reward is not worth taking it. I'd be agreeable to that. But realistically speaking, that isn't happening. So what we're then left with - absent what's on the table now - is the status quo. That to me it the least desirable scenario.

The purpose of immigration law is to control border access. You are against enforcement of immigration laws. Borders with no enforced immigration laws are by definition open borders.

Summary: Open up your home and wallet and take responsibility for the people who you feel should be allowed to circumvent the immigration laws
