Liberal logic: I am such a retard that I will label a group of which 100% of the members have participated in the immigration process inherent 'racists' because they only support legal immigration

I guess it would be too much to ask what race has to do with following immigration laws that apply to everyone

I'll never get that line of thinking around here. Especially when the legal immigration system is so jacked up. Maybe if they fixed that first, then I wouldn't have an issue with a discussion on what to do with the illegal immigrant issue.

What is sad is that none of these polls even mention the option of economic penalties against companies. The politicians have framed the discussion to avoid the option neither political party's backers derive an advantage.

You guys are pathetic ! illegals, slaves etc are necessary for a vibrant economy!

no.. they are not.. They were required at one point if we desired a sizable upper class. Technology removes this requirement because the average productivity of an individual increased. We are still grappling with how to equitably deliver the wealth and probably will for a few more generations - but there is no longer an inherent requirement for a poverty class to exist to support a middle/upper class.

...And please stop with the "everything is about racism" #######.. We seem to have 4-5 people on here that see racism like McCarthy saw communists.

If you make it untenable for companies to employ illegal immigrants, you won't need to do something about most of the 11(or whatever) million. Most of them are economic migrants. Take away their economic driver for being here and they will move somewhere they can make money.

Then things get much more manageable.

The problem would largely solve itself you are right but that solution alone would never get buy-off from the Latino communities and the Democrats would not be able to support it. If it is sold as a path to legalization and better treatment from employers there would be pressure put on the left to support it.. The right would not see as much pressure but they need to do something to get back into the game that is quickly getting out of their control so I think they would buy off on it as well.

Neither side will make any effort to create a bill like this of course - and if they did there would be groups putting out commercials showing families on the edge that would of course starve to death if a higher wage was paid to people picking the apples.. But I think it would pass if congress was force to vote on it.

Not only that, if a law was passed to increase the penalties for people that employ illegal immigrants, would it be enforced? We've already seen the justice depts. selective law enforcement when it comes to this issue and others.

What Counts as “Hiring An Illegal Immigrant”?

Under federal law, it is illegal for any employer to hire, recruit or refer for a fee any alien not authorized to work in the United States. This includes hiring contractors who employ illegal immigrants. There are criminal and civil penalties associated with this conduct.

It is also illegal for any employer not to verify work authorization. An employer who does not correctly complete an I-9 for each employee three days after the employee is hired is also subject to criminal and civil punishment.

What Are the Penalties For Hiring An Illegal Immigrant?

For first offenders, there is a $250-$2,000 fine per illegal employee.

For a second offense, the fine is $2,000-$5,000 per illegal employee.

For employers who have been convicted of hiring illegal immigrants more than twice, the fine can range from $3000-$10,000 per employee. If the employer demonstrates a pervasive pattern of knowingly employing illegal immigrants, he or she could face additional fines, and up to six months in jail.

The laws today are not being enforced. Has there been a case of even one single jail sentence for a habitual offender?

it's "Colombia" they are a bit touchy on people spelling it wrong. There are racists in all countries, there are also idiots that play the race card in all countries.

Seeing that a persons origin is important to you, all four of my grandparents immigrated to the US from the UK... But yeah I am a loser USC, just like your kids will be...

You are not a racist (so you say) but you have identified two countries whose people are beneath you.. Any others?

More importantly, this "solution" would also not get the support of the Chamber of Commerce and there goes your Republican support. As I said, it's unrealistic.
