It pays to be the CEO.

The economic recovery has lifted the pay of chief executives back to pre-recession times, at least compared to the average worker in their industry, according to a new report from the Economic Policy Institute.

CEO-to-worker pay ratio is back up to 273, after falling to 193 in 2009.

Average CEO compensation was $14.1 million in 2012, according to EPI. The organization looks at the chief execs of the top 350 firms and includes the value of stock options exercised in a given year and compares it to the annual compensation of workers in the key industry of the firm.

But those in the corner office still have a ways to go before returning to the heydays of the tech boom. The ratio hit a high of 383 in 2000.

The only thing possibly worse than the minimum wage would be a maximum wage. I am hoping my kids will be CEOs.

Alla, please, say something, you rarely say something

In the Soviet Union there were 5 pay levels and the maximum pay was only little more than the minimum pay. My mother, a high level civil engineer for our district made the same payment as, a doctor, a scientist, more than a teacher by about 10 rubles per month (high level Communist Party members were not included from this, of course) The government chose our profession for us when we were about 8th grade, I was chosen to be a Russian teacher, which means I was able to read much and skip science and math, which was just great. Everyone had an equal house, everyone had a house. Everyone had a job and got a vacation paid by the government, the vacation could be better or worse depending on your work performance. No one got fired...you got transferred or moved to a job where you could "better serve the country." No one got a pay increase unless everyone did, and then other things you paid small amounts for also were increased at the same time.

When I had children I received my pay for three years while I cared for my children before they went to school, pre-school. I finished my masters degree which was paid for by the government. When I went back to teach I kept the same payment. Ukraine continued this, Pasha was born after the Soviet Union. There was no possibility I could make more money or my children could make more money. I could not change jobs without permission and that was almost impossible. We were not allowed to have our own business. I had my own business in the USA in less than 1 year. I am a CEO! :))

Thank you. Good luck

Owning your own business does not make you CEO. You seem to misunderstand the concept.
