I have a social security number since I was in the United States as an International student before. I don't know my A-number and asked my husband to look at the paperwork we have received so far. He said that I don't have an A-number since I have a SSN. To make sure, he called NVC for me, but they said they have no information about our petition since it was already transferred to the embassy. Is it true that I have no A-number? If I remember correctly, I have to fill out my A-number on some forms when I receive a packet from the embassy. right? Can I just fill out my SSN??

Thank you.

Your A number and SSN are totally unrelated. Your A number is your Alien number. I'm not sure under all the circumstances that you get an A number, but it seems possible to me that if you had a student visa you would have an A number. I had one when I became a Permanent Resident.

It is completely acceptable to put 'Unknown' where it asks for A number. Also, whilst you will of been assigned an A number during this process it is not uncommon for it to not to appear on the NOA's. Mine was never included on my NOA1 or NOA2. I put 'Unknown'.

Yes, they are different as everyone said. Just enter your SSN and if you don't have (which is most likely), just write "NONE." The A number given on the I-130 approval is of the petitioner, I think.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

simple_male,

No, the A# is the alien beneficiary's.

No, on our I-130 approval (I-797), only my A number was given. My wife's A number was not mentioned anywhere on our I-130 approval. Please note that I mentioned about I-130, not about I-129F. Perhaps, I-129F's approval notice has mention the beneficiary's A number.

simple_male,

Interesting - you are a naturalized citizen?

My I-130 Approval Notice, also issued by the NSC, had my wife's A# on it. I am a US citizen by birth and I do not have an A#.
