on where it says which occupation do you intend to work in the United States what do I put? Not employed since he is not employed yet, or do I put other and write where my dad works since he is going to see if he can work there but it is not for sure.

I could be mistaken, so please don't take what I say as fact on this, but since no one else replied I felt I should at least try...

But they state: "Which occupation do you intend to work in the United States?"

From my understanding of that question, they're not asking where he plans on working, so much as what does he plan on doing for work: Construction, Sales, Retail, Warehouse/Shipping, Delivery Driver, etc.

If you're unsure, you might be able to use "To be determined" or the like.

I'd check with some of the more experienced VJ'ers, though.

If he does not know what field of work he will be getting a job in when he is in the US and legal to work(after getting EAD), then just put Unknown. It is along the same lines as #32 on the DS-156, where as you can see in the example form, 'Employer Unknown' is part of that answer. http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-DS-156.pdf
