Your visa petition automatically expires after 4 months, so if you are not planning on reapplying within that time frame then your easiest option is to just let it expire.

bad advise... this has come back to bite people in the future

it is still in the uscis system until it is withdrawn

1/3/2013 I-129F cancelled
1/29/2013 withdrawal notice received
2/5/2013 I-130 NOA1 with error on wife's name

2/5/2013 Unable to generate service request

Thanks for your help everybody! It's much appreciated.. This has been a really hard thing to have to do.

So I should basically just ignore what they told him when he called about having to make an appointment for him to go into the uscis office? And just wait until I hear from the consulate here in Sydney and then us both send letters asking to withdraw the petition

Are you wanting to cancel the actual K-1 application or the I-129F petition? I am guessing you meant the I-129F petition since you said you just got an email approval. There is no K-1 application until the foreign fiance(e) applies at the consulate in their country after the I-129F has been approved.

You cannot cancel by phone or email. You must ask to cancel in writing. A letter to the USCIS service center that was processing your case would have worked, but with the approval, it will be sent to the NVC and onto the consulate from there. After it is at the consulate, send a withdrawal letter to the embassy in Australia. State that you wish to withdraw the I-129F petition and provide your case number.

Send notarized letters to both the Service Center and the Embassy. Easy peasy!
