My dad

Just found out my dad has three heart blockages and will have to have heart bypass surgery. I'm a little shaken up, but otherwise okay.

He had a stress test during a routine physical, and they saw oddities and sent him to a cardiologist. The cardio just found the blockages this morning through an artiriogram (sp?). Luckily there is no damage, and they found it this way instead of him having an 'event', but its still kind of scary. He goes to the hospital in Nashville on Monday (for what, I'm not sure yet....probably consultation with the surgeon) so I will hopefully know more after that. He's a healthy guy, and relatively young (he's 63). The dr. even said he'd be 'golfing again by early summer', so that is encouraging.

Please keep us in your thoughts. We need some good VJ mojo.

An aunt of mine had a quadruple bypass a couple of years ago. It really is amazing what they can do these days. She was older than your dad is, and she was back on her feet very quickly. Hope it goes just as swimmingly for your dad.

Good thoughts winging their way to you. My Dad had a disc removed from his spine yesterday, and I was just talking to him a few minute ago and he was getting up to go for a stroll!! It's amazing how much doctors, surgeons etc can do these days.

Hope your Dad is fighing fit soon too

Sorry to hear about your dad Tracy but as you say, better they found the blockages before anything serious occurred. By-pass surgey, although still a major op, is pretty routine and I'm sure the docs will have him fixed up in no time !!

I can fully appreciate your concern having seen my Dad go through multiple heart procedures (including some very invasive heart surgery) but you have to rest assured that medical technology is so advanced now that the doctors really can work miracles.
